Semi Vs Pistol
I have my CHL and was certified using my Ruger SR40C. I would like to purchase a .357 magnum pistol, to carry also. Do I need to be re certified for the Pistol in TX or does my Semi certification cover that already ??????

Re: Semi Vs Pistol
SA = Semiauto, and that covers you for both semiautos and revolvers. Otherwise, you can only carry a revolver. So if you qualified with a .40 Cal semiauto, you're good to go.

I don't know of any .357 magnum pistols. Are there any?
I think that is a revolver caliber.
You could get a .357 Sig in a pistol.

Re: Semi Vs Pistol
I think the OP is asking about a revolver, but the Desert Eagle is/was available in .357 Magnum, along with a couple of 1911s and the Wildey.android wrote:I don't know of any .357 magnum pistols. Are there any?

Re: Semi Vs Pistol
Well, that's the fun thing about guns. Pretty much somebody has built something non-standard for almost any caliber out there. We have rifles that shoot pistol calibers and revolvers that shoot shotgun shells and we have pistols that shoot rifle calibers.brhalltx wrote:I think the OP is asking about a revolver, but the Desert Eagle is/was available in .357 Magnum, along with a couple of 1911s and the Wildey.android wrote:I don't know of any .357 magnum pistols. Something like this is:

LOL, those are awesome, but I will publicly admit my manliness ends at .45 ACP.The Annoyed Man wrote:These are NOT what he's looking for:brhalltx wrote:I think the OP is asking about a revolver, but the Desert Eagle is/was available in .357 Magnum, along with a couple of 1911s and the Wildey.android wrote:I don't know of any .357 magnum pistols. Funny, reading the thread title I was imagining a truck vs. pistol shot.

You could get a .357 Sig in a pistol.
/ˈpistl/
Noun
A small firearm designed to be held in one hand.
Synonyms
gun - revolver - handgun
From Websters:
"The two classes of pistol are revolvers and automatics. Automatics have a mechanism, actuated by the energy of recoil, that feeds cartridges from a magazine in the grip."
The correct distinction would be semiautomatic vs. revolver.
Unless of course you are talking about the designation on a CHL which would be SA (semiautomatic) and NSA (non-semiautomatic).
Life is tough, but it's tougher when you're stupid.

Exactly. Don't be a smart A when you don't even know the definition of what you're saying is incorrect.jmra wrote:pis·tolandroid wrote:I don't know of any .357 magnum pistols. Are there any?

Sorry, slang and a poorly researched dictionary entry is not equal to factual discussion.nyj wrote:Exactly. Don't be a smart A when you don't even know the definition of what you're saying is incorrect.jmra wrote:pis·tolandroid wrote:I don't know of any .357 magnum pistols. Are there any?

Just because everybody calls it the wrong thing doesn't make it true. Neither is a magazine a clip just because 90% of the people call it that.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pistol... a pistol is a handgun with a chamber that is integral with the barrel.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RevolverA revolver is a repeating firearm that has a revolving cylinder containing multiple chambers and at least one barrel for firing.

Re: Semi Vs Pistol
I always considered a pistol a semi-auto and a revolver, a revolver.
