The day I took a gun to school

I'd forgotten until I started reading this thread that I also took a gun to school. It was a fully functional, Colt Single Action Army .45 revolver. We used it as a prop in a school play. (Don't remember if it was junior or senior year.) The guy playing the detective was the smallest guy in the class. It was a hoot watching him draw that old .45. It seemed like the barrel was half as long as he was tall. It's a good sized pistol, but it looked comically huge in his hands.
In the course of the play, he was supposed to shoot another cast member. But this was southeast Arkansas. We grew up with guns, and it was so ingrained in us that you NEVER pointed a gun at somebody that we altered the scene a little. We had the person getting shot run off stage before the shot was fired. This way, our detective could aim at an empty side of the stage. The report was supplied by somebody firing a starter pistol off stage. The wounded cast member then stumbled back on stage for his death scene.
