It is, really...they can fire you for anything or nothing. The reasons for the fire only come into play when they want to deny you unemployment benefits...company policies are written as to how much they want to deal with in this regard, but the law doesn't dictate it to them.
And any company that was found to have fired an employee for having a firearm legally in their vehicle on the parking lot would be ripe for a good lawsuit on unjustified termination.

True, if they are stupid enough to fire you over exercising a right. They would fire you over something stupid or just not give you a reason at all.

It's been over many many times here. Basically, a company can fire you over nothing, but they cannot fire you over anything. There are many protected reasons that one cannot be fired for and if it can be proven that one was a reason for termination or the company is dumb enough to say it then they get what's coming to them.

In my line of work, companies tend to bend over backwards to document every single thing that lead up to someone's termination to avoid wrongful termination lawsuits. I suspect that is common practice among many other industries, but not all.
