I think I saw a black rifle!

During the investigation and pursuit of the Boston marathon bombers I kept seeing the law enforcement holding these strange black rifles with 30 round capacity magazines and optics. Since these are useful only for the military and for mowing down dozens of people why were police officers holding them in every critical situation. Police officers should only carry S&W Model 10s with 158gr. RN ammo or Rem 870 shotguns. Or better yet when confronting a bad guy take a double barrel shotgun stand in the open and fire both barrels you sure don't need an AR15 to capture one two bad guys.

They deployed like 10,000 Swat team members to capture 2 guys on the run. That is Boston, I think I should have figure it out myself

They were called "long guns" by the news media... Not the dreaded "Assault Rifle"... Amazing, huh?

If we normal, everyday citizens have semi-auto versions, they are "assault weapons". If LE or the military have them they are:

Personal Defense Weapon (PDW) – 5.56x45mm NATO, select-fire firearm suitable for personal defense use in close quarters and/or when maximum concealment is required.
