They voted for the Debate in the Senate to continue, not the bill itself ......YET..... :banghead:

Somebody needs to make sure this list gets to the NRA to be re-evaluated and downgraded! :thumbs2:

Graham is apparently working on an amendment that media elites say "guts" the original Dem bill and goes further away from gun control than the Manchin-Toomey "compromise"

The "guts" comment saying Graham's bill is a "watered down" version of the Dem bill is actually in this article

OK, that explains why HE voted for the debate to continue.

So, I retract my statement that the 16 need to be downgraded.......yet.....

ANY that actually vote for the Bill (if it comes to a vote) MUST be dropped to a "F-". :thumbs2:

Here is what Ted Cruz has to say about this:
This morning the Senate will vote on the motion to proceed to the firearms bill (S.649). It is expected that the Toomey-Manchin provision announced yesterday will replace the current language regarding background checks. Yet, as of this morning, not a single senator has been provided the legislative language of this provision. Because the background-check measure is the centerpiece of this legislation it is critical that we know what is in the bill before we vote on it. The American people expect more and deserve better.

Unfortunately, the effort to push through legislation that no one had read highlights one of the primary reasons we announced our intention to force a 60 vote threshold. We believe the abuse of the process is how the rights of Americans are systematically eroded and we will continue to do everything in our power to prevent it.

So a couple of questions:

1. Doesn't it now take a simple majority to pass the bill on the floor? If that is true, haven't the GOP Senators just handed over a lot more power to the gun grabbing Dems?

2. Since the language in the bill isn't yet available, how can anyone vote to have it come to Senate floor?

Assuming that it doesn't pass at least the House, having a bunch of Red State Senate Dems on record of voting for the bill may be a good thing for 2014. Passing by the Senate might give a lot of people the opportunity to replace Dems and Republicans who just don't get it during the next election. Yeah, I know that is very optimistic but I have to cling to what glimmers of hope remain these days.

No, I believe you are still looking at 60 votes for cloture to close the debate.

Do the math. 55 Dems +16 Repugs means 60 votes is a lock. McCain and Graham are in the bag. They just need three more. Then the bill passes with a simple majority. That's why they should have ALL signed on to the filibuster.

I just spent the last 15 min filling out all their contact forms telling each one of them that even though I don't live in their state, their primary opponents are all getting checks from me next election cycle.

Can anyone tell me if a President of any party has in the past used Air Force One to parade people supporting his agenda to the Senate? I am sorry for those families, but using our taxpayer supported plane to apply the arm twisting and emotional drama is wrong. The tactic is without shame and goes against the intent of the separation of powers. No wonder every politician there is finding it difficult to be against doing something to appease the circus. I have to say I am very proud of Cruz and Rand Paul for their unblinking courage. The ones who are caving in should be voted out.
