Love my '12 Texas Edition CrewMax Tundra. Drove it to the Grand Canyon last year with the wife and 3 kids. Still plenty of room.

WE bought a Double Cab Tundra last year to pull a 5K lb ultralight TT. Couldn't be any happier. Without a load it gets around 18-19, with- around 10. Just as I expected. Comfort. Features. Performance. Reliability. Could't be beat IMHO. Your mileage may vary-pun intended. ALso. Ours was built by my neighbors and friends- right here in San Antonio.

I just bought a new truck for work about 2 weeks ago. I shopped it pretty hard and looked at Dodge, Ford, GMC, and Chevy. I really wanted an American truck so I limited it to those. My requirements were a little different than yours, so this may not be too helpful. I ended up finding a new 2012 Ford F250 XLT Crew Cab 4x4 Diesel 6.7. For my application, diesel was not completely required but highly preferred. I paid $39,500 which I thought was a pretty good deal. They were asking $33,000 for a similar truck with a gasoline engine.
In my area, it seemed like GMC was the best deal in an apples to apples comparison but I was able to find the new 2012 which they discounted the heck out of at Ford. I thought the Dodge was really cool, but way over priced. I was actually originally looking for F350s, but the discounted F250 had the towing and hauling capacity I require and I could not pass up on the discount. Good luck with your search!

Yep, the whole American/import lines have become very blurred. In the late '90s I owned a Caddy that was an import, not an American thing about it.

I think my 1988 GMC was mostly assembled in Canada and many of the parts were manufactured in Mexico. In contrast, my Titan was assembled in Tennessee. It's kind of an interesting question. Is it better to buy from and American owned company or from a company where more American workers were involved in the actual assembly?

Tundra's are AWESOME.

They really put a lot of thought into them, that's for sure. The rear gears & axle are superb and strong. Very strong. Front brakes and rear brakes are huge with 4 piston, makes stopping easier. Rear shocks are staggered for stability, a very cool feature. The hitch isn't simply bolted on--it has 12 bolts that go from the receiver all the way back to the axle--very sturdy.

Unfortunately, Toyota does not make a long bed crew-max truck. They haven't because they want people to be able to pull them into a garage still. I think that is a bad decision, especially for folks who pull trailers. However, when I was working at the dealership I had SEVERAL people throw 5th wheel hitches in the bed anyway on the crewmax short beds. I asked them if they worried about it, but most of them had some kind of a kit that pushed the hitch way back to the end of the bed, and they said they were just real careful when pulling with them.

Anyway. If I were in the market for a full sized truck, the Tundra would be my first choice, followed closely by an ecoboost F150. Tundra's tend to run a little more expensive than chevy and ford, but you get a lot of bang for your buck so I think it's reasonable.
