Bloomberg to Fund Gun Control Ads

#1

Post by gthaustex »

Well, the big city nanny is at it again. Using his personal fortune to try and sway opinions and votes. He plans to target key senators on gun control issues with ads in the media. My particular favorite about this whole thing is that it is done through Mayors Against Illegal Guns. That group claims a large number of felons among their ranks.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/03/ ... tor&rpc=43
The commercials to be run by Mayors Against Illegal Guns feature a hunter with a rifle, vowing to protect the right to bear arms and voicing support for comprehensive background checks "so criminals and the dangerously mentally ill can't buy guns."
It is also particularly laughable that Bloomberg thinks that this debate has been one sided with the NRA as the only voice out there. I guess he thinks that the media has been completely neutral on this issue...
The ad campaign marks a push back against the National Rifle Association, the mayor said in the Times interview. "The N.R.A. has just had this field to itself," Bloomberg said. "It's the only one that's been speaking out. It's time for another voice."

Bloomberg Problem is NRA has like 5,000,000 paying members and are very motivated to defend their 2nA rights. He has no paying member other than himself. It makes his drive laughable as it does not represent but himself. Target Senators know they are elected by constituents and not by Bloomberg no-vote money. Ads helps rally opposition, but most likely if those who are rallied are minority in the targeted areas, then it is just a public stunt for Bloomberg.

:iagree:

Bloomburg is fighting an uphill battle and I hope that it stays that way. In continuing the vilification of the NRA as an organization, Bloomberg and his cronies ignore a couple of elephants in the room.

1. The power of the NRA comes not from Chris Cox or Wayne LaPierre but from those 5M members. The money that the NRA has may come in part from the gun makers but I suspect that most of the funding is from individuals. The voting power to squeeze elected officials who stray from 2nd Amendment support most definitely comes from those members. The politicians do not shudder from the NRA organizational structure because of the individuals within it but because of the membership that supports it.

2. The rush on buying guns and ammo is NOT what some on in the gun grabbing crowd are trying to represent - the same small group of gun owners are buying more and more guns. What that translates to is that even more people who are most likely not NRA members have a stake in resisting Bloomy and his band of trouble makers. The NRA is just the tip of that iceberg.

That said, funding makes a difference and Bloomberg and Soros have a lot of advertisement money at their disposal. Like the NRA, they are targeting politicians who don't support their point of view. Anyone who thought that Bloomberg would cease to be a problem when he leaves office as mayor needs to reconsider. This is going to be a messy conflict conducted through the media for the foreseeable future.

Why doesn't Rich Littleman use all that money for assisting the homeless and down trodden in NYC rather than poke a big stick into stirring up the country class of America ?

Send money to the NRA and then send Bloomberg an email telling him you did. If everyone did that, it would really cheer him up. :biggrinjester:

It is my understanding that attorneys from MAIG and Bloombergs lobbyists from NY were actively working in Colorado to influence the outcome of the legislation.

We will see this everywhere.

He had investigators from New York travel to Arizona to try and ferret out problems with gun shows there. He is taking his resources and poking his nose into every one else's business, including those who live in other states.

MILLER: Mayor Bloomberg’s irresponsible gun attack ads
Man violates all three NRA gun-safety rules

Monday, March 25, 2013
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/201 ... N0.twitter" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
In the ad “Responsibility,” the man has his finger on the trigger, as if ready to shoot. While doing this, he says, “I believe in the Second Amendment, and I’ll fight to protect it. But with rights come responsibilities. To make an ad demonstrating actual gun responsibility, the man would put a straight forefinger above the trigger guard to make sure he doesn’t accidentally touch the trigger.
