New York State Sets Up Gun Snitch Line With $500 Award...

Well...Well...Well...
See I told you so...
Now...I would think it would be neat to flood this 800 service number with just plain old calls...No false information, just let it ring then hang up...It puts a cost to their project yet will not yield much leads to satify their overall intent...
This is not like a 911 service where you do that and you could be charge with a crime...This is NOT, in my opinion an emergency number requesting emergency assistance...
Some may disagree, ok, I can dig it...But, NY'kers made this political bed, now they have to lay in it for now...But I seriously doubt they will change anything...
One thing that was mentioned down in the comment section is that a criminal might make an easy $500 by dumping/planting one of their useless guns in or on the property of someone they don't like, drop a dime and boom...$500...

It's impossible to describe my disgust in forum-permissible language.
Flypaper laws making otherwise honest citizens into criminals, and a Brown-shirt number to snitch on your neighbors/friends/colleagues/acquaintances and send them to jail for 7 years per offense.

Well, emotions aside, that's pretty depressing.

I hope they'd have to end up filtering out all the non-metro callers due all the country people just calling to waste their time.Jeff B. wrote:Well, emotions aside, that's pretty depressing.

Actually NYk'rs can legitimately fill the call line by turning in every police officer they see with a high capacity magazine (more than 7 rnds) and then they should push for the $500 reward. Let's see 34,500 NYC uniformed PO's x $500.... that alone should put a dent in their snitch budget!

Re: New York State Sets Up Gun Snitch Line With $500 Award..
Funny, I wonder if a person I used to know, I have been gone from NY State for 20 years, still has the guns I knew he had.
And if he's still alive.
I would turn him in in a minute, NY or otherwise, he used to be the judge that was in charge of granting, or more often not in his case, Pistol Permits in our county. We sued him several times for test cases: regarding "bench vetos" of permits, just leaving the apps unprocessed on his desk, constantly moving them to the bottom of the stack; and then for denying permits without good cause; and then for denying permits for stupid causes; and then for something else; and then our coalition ran out of funds to sue him with, so he eventually won.
I turned him in once for littering when he dropped a cigarette on the sidewalk and crushed it out. There was a cop nearby and I told him about the miscreant, and he went over to talk to him. The judge gave him one of those "Do you know who I am, young man?" answers which did not sit well with the cop.
I know that this person, more than 25 years ago, had possession of handguns that he did not have permits for, I saw them when I was repairing his telephone line and his wife let me in the basement. Since pistol permits in NY are public information, it was easy to check to see if he had permits for them the next day, and he did not. Unfortunately the phone company had some very specific rules about "snitching" and how would the police get a warrant to search anyway. But that phone company does not exist anymore (although I do draw a pension from their successor) and as a retiree I don't think they could hold me to that clause if they could even figure out who sent in the snitch.
Oh, the temptation.

Actually, I can see this being used very effectively for state police ambushes (most NY Sheriffs won't enforce).

I looked him up, he died 15 years ago. There goes $500.00 out the window.

It's NY, next thing we know NYC have a soda hotline and dole out more taxpayer money for snitching on honest, law abiding citizens that want more than 16oz to quench their thirst.

Re: New York State Sets Up Gun Snitch Line With $500 Award..
This is like a lab experiment demonstrating what will unfold for the rest of the country if these gun bans and registration laws ever take effect.“This program has been in place for more than a year and is aimed only at getting illegal crime guns off the streets: a goal that every New Yorker can agree with,” wrote Janine Kava, director of public information at NYS DCJS.
It is unlikely the police would ever engage in any kind of door-to-door mass searches and confiscations like what happened in certain parts of New Orleans. The more likely approach will be using the registration lists for targeted confiscation, combined with this kind of propaganda/incentive approach of "only at getting illegal guns off the streets".

I wouldn't be all that surprised if they had some illegal weapons.PUCKER wrote:I need some help...what are the names/addresses of Bloomberg's security goons????
