First off, the DPS will never "notify you" of anything. You can track the status of your application online, but no one will be notifying you of anything. To answer your questions - no, you do not need to wait. Go get your fingerprints done and they will be automatically forwarded to DPS. DPS will receive your prints long before they ever start working on your packet. Like I said, the wait for a simple online acknowledgement of receipt is up to 2 months.

Hang in there.

We was told by our instructor after we mailed our packet that we would be contacted by mail from DPS to go do our prints at L1 solution and my instructor is a texas state trooper

I've never heard of anything like that. I would highly advise you to get on the L1 website and schedule yourself to get fingerprinted as soon as possible, that's how I did it. The only contact you will get from the dps, if you dont send your fingerprints, will be in about 3 weeks when you check your status and everything will say received except for your fingerprints. Then there wont be any time available on the L1 site except for about a week out. Then it will take another 2 weeks for dps to receive them, and before you know it, you will be getting your license a month later than you could have. I'm getting my plastic either Tuesday or Wednesday. So I must have done something right, and the dps has never contacted me. All in all, get them done now.

WRONG! :nono:

Your application will just sit at DPS until they receive ALL info--including fingerprints.

Go get your prints taken ASAP :coolgleamA:

If you mailed in a paper application, you should be checking the DPS website for status. As soon as it updates to "application materials received" you can schedule your fingerprint appointment. This usually takes about 3 weeks. If you wait until you receive that letter from DPS, you will only have 90 days to complete the fingerprint process before DPS terminates your application.

The recommended process is to complete the application online, then immediately schedule the fingerprint appointment. I don't knnow about the rest of the state, but I can tell you most MorphoTrust locations in the DFW area are completely booked for 2 to 3 weeks out. If you wait too long, you could be in danger of running out of that 90 day window.

WRONG If you did mail in app NOT online you must wait till DPS sends you a letter to go get your finger prints done. You CANNOT schedule a appointment without the letter. I already called about this cause Im am waiting on said letter.

How can you schedule the appointment without the letter from DPS? I cannot even find the phone number to L1 on the internet or phone book. Even if I did just show up at L1 without the letter to give them how would they know where to send my finger prints?

If you sent the paper applicaiton you can't schedule them until you get the DPS letter. What Crossfire was saying is the recommended process is to do the online applicaiton, then it takes you immeadiately to the website for L1 and you can schedule an appointment. This is one of the downsides to doing the paper app.

If DPS has entered your application into the system, you can schedule at http://www.IBTFingerprint.com

If it does not allow you to login with your driver's license and birthdate, then your appliction has not been entered yet. If it does, then you follow the directions on the website to schedule an appointment.

Net net - DO NOT send in paper application--do it online!

Sending in paper will add 2-4 weeks to your process. Make sure to apply online--it's simple :patriot:

To late, I never knew about the online app until a week after I mailed everything off. Our CHL instructor gave us everything we needed to mail off so I used the packet provided to me.
