I'm taking the Home Firearm Safety & Basic Pistol Instructor courses (which includes the BIT) on the 23rd & 24th in Royse City. I think Mr. Crowe has a few spots open if you are in need of classes in the DFW area.

His 23rd/24th class is full. I am taking his class on Thursday the 21st & Friday the 22nd. He opened up the weeknight class because his weekend class got full. That's a heck of a drive for me to get to him, but I know that NRA classes are filling up fast, and I want to be certified ASAP. Anyone else out there taking the Thurs/Fri class with Mr. Crowe this week?

Interesting. I'm signed up to take the BIT in April and it has been stressed to me that this class is stand-alone, just the BIT, 6 clock hours long.

Is that not supposed to be possible? Am I in danger of being forced to re-take BIT in the future when I try to sign up for Basic Pistol?

Actually, no.

The instructor has no web site and BIT courses aren't listed separately on the NRA Instructors "Find a Course" page. However, after doing some digging, I found on the NRA page that the same instructor is offering the "NRA Instructor Pistol Shooting Course" the very next day at the same location.

I find it strange that when I heard about and requested information on the BIT offering, the instructor didn't bother to mention that the pistol course was being offered the next day and could be conveniently bundled. I think I'll do that but I still get a weird vibe. I hope this was just some minor miscommunication.

The instructor is offering, per the NRA "Find a Course" page, the pistol course the next day. If you look up the pistol course, there's a comment attached that BIT is a prerequisite and is being offered the previous day.

I think this will just turn out to be a minor miscommunication. I contacted them and asked for the BIT. They signed me up for the BIT. Unfortunately, I was sufficiently ignorant that I didn't also ask to be put into the pistol course the next day.

I'll re-contact them and ask for placement in the pistol course, too. I think that will solve the problem.

I know the instructor that he is speaking about and he is a definately a qualified NRA training counselor. Where I believe the confusion lies is that the BIT is not a stand alone course in the fact that it really doesn't give you any certification. You must have BIT and then a specific discipline (pistol instructor, rifle, shotgun, etc.) What I believe this councelor is doing is offering the BIT on one day (for a fee) and then the pistol instructor course the following day (for a separate fee). This would actually allow a person who needs to get the BIT to take it on that day, and then take the pistol course the next day, or take the shotgun instructor course at a later date if they weren't interested in pistol instructor. Splitting them into separate days also allows a person who is already an instructor and does not need BIT to take the pistol or other discipline course without having to attend the BIT portion. When I tool my course we did BIT on Friday evening, then pistol instructor on Saturday and Sunday.
