It's Renewal Time!
Last year, I posted something about how horrid my renewal process would be, as my license expires in May, and my eligibility wouldn't open up until November - right after the election.
Well, my vocation didn't make things any easier. Being a pastor, trying to find a free Saturday between mid-November and early January is impossible. I filled out the online app on January 21, and took my class last Saturday, 2/2. I have mailed in the remainder of my paperwork, and now the waiting begins.
Anyone have an idea how long renewals are running right now? My instructor said to expect 45 days, but I'm curious and a bit antsy. I truly forgot that I could take the class earlier than the start of my eligibility period, so now I'm not worried, but...concerned.
The class before us at the range was about 40, and at least 15 of them were women. So that's a good sign for all of us.

Re: It's Renewal Time!
I sent in my chl100 (usps confirms delivery 1/23) and still shows waiting for materials to be sent in. I have read that it takes 4 weeks +/- to get updated in computer as "received" so I guess things are 'on schedule' at this time.
I anticipated it taking a long time so I did it early- I don't expire until the end of May. All the classes are full and have been for 2 months so I know DPS is swamped... I doubt they added staff for the influx.

I sent my paperwork on 1/23 also, and my status is "still waiting on paperwork".

At least I've got two 'early warning' folks in front of me then, eh? Mailed my paperwork this Monday, 2/4.

Re: It's Renewal Time!
I took my class on Dec 9 last year (a Sunday) and put my paperwork in the mail later that week. I had already filled out my application online. I got my renewal card in the mail Jan 24, so that's about a six week turnaround. Since you don't expire until May, you should be fine. Also, I can vouch that it takes several weeks for the status to begin updating online. I think was about the second week of January that it finally indicated my paperwork had been received.
As an aside, I wonder if they give priority to renewals that are about to expire or if it's strictly first-come-first-served...

That's expecting something logical so it might be a stretch. Mine expires on the 17th of this month, so we'll see.TrueFlog wrote: As an aside, I wonder if they give priority to renewals that are about to expire or if it's strictly first-come-first-served...

Thanks fore posting that- I try not to check more than once a week or so because it makes waiting worse. ...lol But I'm same as you today.CainA wrote:Well I just checked mine (I check it every day, like most people do) and it's been updated.

just an fyi, I didn't send mine via any special postage, just wrapped it up, stuck it in an envelope and mailed it like I mail anything else. I'll let you guys know when I receive it.

I didn't do anything special either. Just a plain manila envelope with enough postage to cover it.

Re: It's Renewal Time!
Just to keep this thread alive. My status has not change since I posted that screen capture. Obviously they're not 'fast tracking' my renewal based on the fact that my license expires this Sunday. Not their fault-mine for dragging my feet on my renewal. I'll post again whenever the status changes.

For what it's worth, mine changed slightly- now my fingerprints are "green" and say complete. Only yellow is the background, which would logically be the last thing to get checked off. I assume that means it's close to completion.CainA wrote:Just to keep this thread alive. My status has not change since I posted that screen capture. Re: It's Renewal Time!
OK, y'all spurred me to check again, even though I checked earlier this week and had nothing. Woo! Hoo! Progress!
My status looks just like yours, CainA, except my fingerprints are still under review. 13 days from mailing to the status screen.

Re: It's Renewal Time!
I took my renewal class Thursday. The instructor told me it has been averaging 3-4 weeks on renewals.

Mine, which was sent in at the end of September, took about 30-40 days.03Lightningrocks wrote:I took my renewal class Thursday. The instructor told me it has been averaging 3-4 weeks on renewals.
