Idiots at the range.

#1

Post by blackgold »

I'm at texas star in kempner now. Guys call for a cease fire to change targets. No problem. My gf and others go down to put up new targets as I see this guy telling his girlfriend how to aim. I look over and she's holdi g the gun and aiming down range but towards the ground. I tell people are down range. His reply was its clear tho. I say so? Put the gun down. Now I'm the jerk for pointing out this guy was an idiot. :/

That is why I try to go when nobody else is there. I don't want to be accidentally shot.

Exactly. Any other response than "OOPS! My bad, sorry" ought to be grounds for ejection from the range. The only thing that will keep him from someday sending a round downrange when people are down there is to admit that he screwed up massively. He's the jerk for trying to defend the indefensible, not you. My guess is that he didn't want to look bad in front of his girlfriend.

I used to have the luxury of being able to take a few hours during the week to go when no one was there.
I can't do that anymore and I'm worried now about going when its packed on a sat or sun. When it was slow I never saw any idiots and actually got to chat with some people and learn some things

I'd recommend informing the management and/or writing a letter to the establishment. You might save someone's life by doing so.

^^^ this

If the guy or the range can't understand the simplest of range rule :rules: I'd be notifying the owner.

Yup, those guys are like drill sergeants, I try to go there during the week, as no ones there and you can call your own cease fire. If people are there then they tend to be on the level.

If I go to a public range it will be indoors. If I must shoot outdoors I find private land suitable for the task. I refuse to go to an outdoor public range.

At one popular range here, during cease fire to change targets, chambers on all firearms are open and the line is clear. No exceptions. You must either go change targets, step behind the red line, go out for a beer or a smoke, or whatever.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

Seriously sir, write the letter or at the least make a call before they cannot remmeber who the RO was.

At most ranges when the line is cold you can't be at it. We're talking bullets here.
Not much room for error.

Same thing at the NorCal range I went to. And same thing at QC, too.
