Ranges Don't like New Instructors

I don't know where you are in Houston, but Memorial Shooting Center, (just north of Memorial Center Mall) used to allow outside instructors to qualify. They were very nice. I just qualified a class at Tactical Firearms in Katy. They told me during their grand opening I could even use one of their classrooms. I'm sure they would charge for the room and I didn't ask how much.

Memorial Shooting Center is about the same distance from me so I am going to look into that...thanks.

I had to qualify 4 students this past Friday. I went to TopGun in Houston. Now in the past, I have gone there and with the exception of having to pay twice the amount per student ($37.50...the hourly price is only $15.00 normally), I was never charged anything else. That has now changed, they charged me the same price just to administer the exam!

Three of the students I brought with me had never been to Top Gun, so in my mind, I was bringing in ongoing business to them so why charge me? (rhetorical question) Add to that the continual snarky attitudes I have encountered there, and I am just going to have to find somewhere else to get my students qualified.

I really don't get it.

Without talking specifics , I WILL NOT do business with Top Shot for the reason above and their business practices .... I would go to Best Shot , they will work you as they can if you let them know a few days ahead of time and not get greedy they will reserve a few spots for you and they only charge the normal range fee for all shooters and they have NEVER turned me away, I have had to run 4-5 people using one bay but better than nothing ,,,,,,,,


oh and BTW the last part of this yr , I went to a range in the spring area and Bandera and they both where great of course they worked me in since it was busy...and have never been told no , it is a shame some ranges say no , lost business to me

I have a friend who is letting me build a range. we have small berms at 300,500,800, and table at 200,100. I will be improveing the berms and adding 1000 for my long range classes. I am looking for free dirt at the moment for a dedicated pistol horse shoe bay. After all is complete I will see if he is interested in letting others come for a fee. maybe something like 25.00 or so. Please PM me if you know of a place or company looking for a place to dump there dirt. Also PM me if interested in a place to shoot on the east side of town. I will get an idea of how many people are intersted on this side of town.

My first class 15+ years ago we shot on some farm land up the road. Had some round bales of hay setup and we would just step back for each distance..

Check with construction companies doing highway stuff. They move large quantities or dirt and I have no idea what they do with it.

Sorry about that will be in the baytown area on the east side of houston. Yes the construction companies are were I have got some. Been calling pool companies as well.
