The new law prohibits magazines larger than 7 rounds, right? The old law was 10 rounds, so 30 rounds would be illegal in New York until the United States Supreme Court rules it unconstitutional, right? Or am I all wet again?

I grew up there. Hard to believe this is where enforcement starts. The North Country is (was) a sportsman's heaven.
I'm seriously speechless.

Yes. They will in red states. Besides, this ain't over until it's over. Watch for a lawsuit coming to New York real soon.

No they won't.

German citizens NEVER would have thought their friends, families, neighbors, AND government would have rounded up citizens and MURDERED them for simply practicing a religion.

Russian citizens NEVER would have thought their OWN military would be used to round up and murder citizens who were not in line with the state sanctioned political party.

Cambodian citizens NEVER thought they would be rounded up and murdered by THEIR government for simply being an "intellectual".

Yet it ALL happened.

If anybody thinks it CAN'T happen here, they are not only ignorant of human nature, they are outright fools.

This happened before the new law passed.
Story is dated Jan 7
New Law didn't pass the Senate until Jan 14. Not sure when it went into effect.
Listen up, it has been stated twice already. New York state ALREADY had their own version of the AWB in place and they were limited of 10 round magazines. Any possesion of a magazine with a capacity greater than 10 rounds that was manufactured after 1984 was already illegal. The new law takes it to 7 rounds on pistols.

EDIT TO ADD: His bother stated he thought the magazines he had purchased were pre-ban (pre-1984) magazines which were legal. The issue will be proving they manufactured before 1984 and were legal per the New York state law.

It was 1994...not 1984. The original NY law paralleled the Federal ban, but it did not sunset in 2004. I think I even read that the New York law used the same language as the Federal law. If it did, then the onus is on the State to prove that the mags were not pre-1994.

I wonder what owners of guns that don't have available 7 round mags are going to do? Could be a good business in converting say Beretta 92 10 rounders to 7... and Glocks, etc.

Well, Sean Hannity has said on his show that he has only loaded 7 rounds in his carry gun to comply with the new law. I would have thought that if this were not acceptable he would have been called on it by now and would have said something about that on his show. Maybe he hasn't been called on it yet, but IDK.

I think 10 round mags were grandfathered in the new law, but can only be loaded with 7 rounds. Misdemeanor for 8-10 rounds loaded.

See, that is exactly the kind of stupidity that we don't need becoming Federal law. Like they are going to be able to check everyone to see if they are complying...nope, they'll just randomly pick people they catch and make "examples" out of them. Disgusting.

Yeah I heard Sean Hannity say that and wondered... That is really the stupidest law I've ever heard. Why don't they just let you have a Beta C Mag (100rds), but make it illegal for you to put more than 7 in it. Oh yeah, maybe they should make murder illegal.... :banghead: Doh!!! I forgot, it already is!!

So I'm wondering, what do you do when you buy a new pistol in NY now? Can it only have a 7 rd mag, or can you get it with a 10 and only load with 7...? I want to start up my 7rd mag conversion business soon...

Also, did I understand correctly that all the pre-94 ban >10 mags have to go away? And by when?

And lastly, I heard the mentally challenged NY legislators forgot to put an exemption for LEOs in their law... Good. They should leave it that way. No reason why the police need to be running around with weapons of war. NYC is not a battlefield and LEO's don't need 30 rounds to take a deer in Manhattan.
