I supported him, gladly. Hopefully, the sincerity and enthusiam he displays as a new Freshman will spread.
In a political world of give and take, idealism seems to be the first casualty.
He is off to a great start. With lots of support, his influence will be felt for many years. If not, this will be a real life re-run of 'Mr. Smith...Washington'.
Senator Cruz has been on the job not even a month as of now, and has already gotten in some pretty good licks.
I'm not sure he is eligible to be President, since he was born in Canada, albeit to a US citizen mother. The claim has been that Obama was born in Hawaii, in the US. McCain was born in a US base, to US citizens.
No matter. The skill set of a good President is rather different than for a good US Senator. Some people are so good at what they do, you need to keep them where they can do the most good. Think Babe Ruth here, so good with the bat that it would have been foolish to let him be the best pitcher of his generation. A Senator is an important person, especially one who has the respect of his fellow Senators. The President has only the bully pulpit, and of course, the power to name judges.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.
