Garland Public Range Reduced Hours?

#1

Post by knotquiteawake »

I thought that they were Open "10AM-8PM, EVERY day. . . Monday-Sunday, every holiday, every single day" according to their website.

I went there tonight at 6:40pm and nearly ran into the chain closing off the entrance (little to no reflectors on that chain!). I saw a couple trucks parked in the lot, but most of the lights were off.

Anyone know whats going on there? Its pretty uninviting. I've been there once before on the evening and had no problem.

Was it because of the weather?

My bad.
Shooting continues uninterrupted, regardless of precipitation or natural light.
No idea.

Right? That's what I thought, and besides it wasn't raining any more.

My few experiences there have been not so great. They wouldn't even take a check from me because the check number was under 200 (its a new account), which makes no sense when you can start your checks at whatever number you want. Whether it's check #200 or 2000 it still might be the first check you've ever written.

The only reason I even try to go is the range fee is only $10. Its not worth the $10 if I'm driving all the way out there for nothing though.

They have been open posted hours for 20+ years... sorry for your recent experience but I think it's incredibly rare. I also know they have been re-working the berms the last few months to get the 30 cal and above approval back. (not sure if that has happened yet or not) I wonder if they had to shut the shooting down early that day to do more berm work?

Just guessing- I don't live over there anymore but do shoot there still when I visit family down the street.

Not likely since it was after dark and had just rained. LIke I said, it was just odd. I'm hesitant to go out there again after work. Guess I need to call them ahead of time now to make sure they are open.
