It might be true if that power was used without restraint. But we're not using that power without restraint in Afghanistan, and we didn't use it without restraint in Iraq, Vietnam, or Korea either; we didn't even use it without restraint in WW2 --so it most certainly isn't going to be used without restraint on our own soil. And if the attempt was made to do so it would undoubtedly provoke a revolt in the military.
None of those wars were a direct threat to the power of the Administration. I don't know where our government would draw the line at restraint, if they felt their jobs and power over the citizens were threatened. If they would kill a few of rebells standing up to them, would they draw the line at just shooting them with m4s, grenade launchers or blockbusters? I suppose it would depend on who is in charge?
Would Barry take the opportunity to wipe out all the bitter clingers? and teach them a lesson? I don't know myself, but I do know he doesn't think highly of us.
He might want to do a lot of things, but he can't do them with nuclear weapons, or most of the other weapons cited, because he wouldn't just be wiping out the bitter clingers. Drone strikes are estimated to kill about 50 civilians for every bad guy. He's not going to take out your house with a drone strike if you have neighbors. I'm not suggesting he or his minions have any personal restraints --I think they're mostly sociopaths-- but they do have external constraints. When you kill everyone indiscriminately you tend lose your allies. Is a liberal family member going to accept having his granddaughter killed because his son-in-law is a "gun nut?" Some might, but I suspect most won't. The sociopaths in charge can't do anything without support. You think a General is going to order a nuke dropped on any city in this country? And if he does, you think everyone down the line is going to blindly follow such an order? I wouldn't have when I was in the military. And if by some unfortunate command chain, it does get dropped, you think the rest of the military is going to sit back and wait for it to happen again when the military will then be full of people who just had loved ones and family exterminated?
No dictator can exist without at least acquiescence from the populace. And Obama isn't going to be able to order people killed without the support of the military. Most of the Generals may be liberals, but I don't think most of the ranks are filled with the sons and daughters of progs and libs; most of them are the sons and daughters of the people they'd be targeting. And if Obama, or some other wannabe dictator, wants to do more than make a few examples, it's not going to be long before some of those more powerful weapons make it into civilian hands --not planes and tanks, but all kinds of man-portable weapons like Stingers, as well as SAWs, M4s, and grenades. And I wouldn't be surprised to see some rogue airstrikes by disaffected pilots. One of the reasons the drug cartels have so much power in Mexico is that cartel personnel have infiltrated the government, the police, and the military. Our government, police, and military, are going to start out any action against Americans full of "infiltrators."
I'm not saying they wouldn't launch a drone strike on some militia group gathering out in the woods somewhere, or use fully automatic weapons in the cities; but their practical ability to employ the most powerful weapons in our military arsenal is going to be severely limited because their enemies will be spread around throughout their supporters. A war on gun owners won't be the kind of fight that can sustain much "collateral damage." So, if the country ever does become such a battlefield the field isn't going to be level, but it's going to be far more level than those deriding the purpose of the 2nd Amendment want people to believe.
We're talking about extremes here, so here's another extreme to consider --if the President is making war on Americans, and especially if using WMDs, how is he going to be sure he can trust his SS detail and other government personnel? The president of South Korea was killed by the head of the Korean CIA.
