Interested in what cops think about what's going on in Chicago? I look at this blog on a regular basis just to let me know there are still some sane people in Chicago, particularly the rank-and-file in the Police department...
I believe there is safety in numbers..
numbers like: 9, .22, .38, .357, .45, .223, 5.56, 7.62, 6.5, .30-06...

We've had 23 murders in Richardson since 1999. None in the past three years. http://www.city-data.com/crime/crime-Ri ... Texas.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Our homicide squad is bored to tears. :biggrinjester:

As per CDC:
In the United States, smoking is responsible for about one in five deaths annually (i.e., about 443,000 deaths per year, and an estimated 49,000 of these smoking-related deaths are the result of secondhand smoke exposure)
Killing others with your smoke, isn't that a murder?

49K per year for secondhand exposure is like 5-6X more than all death by firearms!!

Tobacco: 49,000 death per year
Firearms: 08,000 death per year.
But the ones killed by firearms are more dead than the others so they count more.

I keep asking some of the anti-gun folks "what problem are we solving again?" They tell me how awful all of those gun deaths are and then we get into the top ten causes for deaths in America.

There are certainly some gun deaths rolled up in the suicide numbers but since the US suicide rates don't differ with other countries, the claim that guns cause suicides is bogus, too.

Down here in Harlingen, we had 4 murder/homicides last year.

The robberies: 3 with FAs, 20 knife or blades objects, 11 with Other Deadly Weapons, and 28 with hands, feet, etc.

Assault: FA 12, knife 58, ODW 101, Hands, feet, etc. 11.

I think we need to make sure everyone wears cute and fuzzy bunny slippers. Ban the broad ODW.

Seems to me that the problem starts with kids. Kids in gangs, kids carrying guns. Obviously the Chicago schools need to expell more kids carrying Hello Kitty Bubble Guns. Just as pot is a gateway drug, Hello Kitty Bubble Guns are a gateway to violence and distruction.
