Contact your Representatives and Senators! Again!

As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

Contact your Representatives and Senators! Again!

Biden will be giving his recommendations for gun control to BHO tomorrow. Get out in front and help bolster your representatives' resolve. Today is as good of a day as any!

Lookup all of your representatives and get an easy link to their websites here:

For those who haven't done it before, it took less than 10 minutes to call all of them. I left messages on machines with the folks in Washington and talked to the staff for my Representative and Senator in Austin.

For Cruz, Cornyn, and Burgess, I only mentioned defending the 2nd Amendment against any new regulations, gun controls, laws, or executive orders. I asked them to use every avenue possible to fight for us.

For my state rep and senator, I mentioned the above as well as expanded CHL carry rights, including campus carry (university and k-12) and school vouchers, which is important for me. I had open carry penciled in and left it alone, figuring two bullet points were enough for this type of exchange. Both Senator Hancock and Representative Capriglione seemed already on board, which I expected but found nevertheless reassuring.

For those who regularly contact your reps, how often do you call for the same matter? Should we make a weekly reminder sticky, or do you wait until you have new information e.g. a specific piece of legislation to reference.

I probably average calling 1x/year and during sensational times. We need to strike a balance between respecting their staff's time and making sure we're coming through loud and clear.

Probably not as often as I should, but anytime important topics/votes come up.

As needed. During times like this, weekly. I respect their staff's time but also realize they work for me and I help pay their salaries.

Most of the time the state level folk will ask for that. . . and maybe your U.S. Rep.

My guess is it's partially to make sure you're in their district, and mostly because leads with accurate contact information cost a lot to generate on their own, so they're not going to turn it down for free!

You've identified yourself as "politically interested and active". . . that's a valuable resource to a politician!

Called my three reps in Washington DC again today.

Cornyn - left voicemail at DC office

Cruz - DC mailbox was full so I called his Dallas office and actually talked to a staffer

Burgess - called DC number and talked to staffer

--------
I asked for:
Defense:
1. No new bans on any firearms of any sort
2. No limits on magazine capacity
3. No expansion of background check requirements that impede private sales

Offense:
1. National reciprocity
2. Elimination of gun free zone designations

I would contact my US Rep, but I think it's still Ruben Hinojosa. So it's like asking Obama himself to oppose it. Redistricting, you know.

If it's Farenthold, I'll contact him.
