I've always wanted an AR-type modern sporting rifle and the day after the election :grumble I stopped by one of our LGSs in the Hill Country and started looking at potential candidates. There were only two modern sporting rifles in .308 on the shelf (and not many in .223/5.56) so I made a command decision to buy it on the spot without approval from the spousal unit.

All the way home I thought she would kill me because we usually discuss any purchase over $200 so I was dreading springing the news that our gun safe is going to have a new occupant :???: . To my complete astonishment she thought that was a good idea :thumbs2: - she understood the anti-gun possibilities with four more years of Glorious Leader, so this was an easy sell.

I researched and waited a little longer than John, but was able to purchase my EBR last week, thankfully before the panic buying taking place now. I too chose a .308 sporting rifle. The wife and I discussed it because her niece and her husband are coming for Christmas from Michigan and he really wanted to go hunting for hogs while here. So my reasoning was "Honey, I have to get a rifle large enough to kill these hogs", she said ok, reluctantly, but no budget agreed to. I was reasonable in what I paid based on the research, but she wasn't real happy about the cost. I haven't broken the news on the Trijicon scope I picked up LNIB yet, maybe she won't notice it. :biggrinjester:

We discuss our purchases, but I still have final say (at least in my mind I do).

Let everybody know how comfortable the couch is for sleeping :evil2: . Funny thing about the gals - very little important stuff slips by them, once you think you're home-free the hammer drops.

Funny thing you mention hog hunting - after I finally get my Bushy sighted-in, that's my plan. Also on the docket is applying for a suppressor permit  .

Same here. Wife asked me what size caliber I needed to hunt hogs ( I've been talking about that for a bit). I told her I was looking at a couple .308s. She suggested I get an AR before they get banned. I have the best wife in the world (and Father-in-law who taught his girls to shoot from a young age).

Unfortunately that AR may cost you a whole lot more now than it would have a week ago.

I am still waiting for my wife to stop complaining about "more" assault rifles. What a woman to tell you to buy one....I am showing this one to my wife! Congrats and enjoy the fun!

Here my wife shooting the new AR10. She actually had a good grouping of 4 shots at 25 yards. First time on a rifle that big.

You are nicer than I am...I didn't give my wife a scope. However, she'll probably like the EoTech I put on the .556 now!

It's not her gun :biggrinjester:

It's a flat top AR10, no iron sights, so got the Accupoint 1.25x4 for hogs and whatever. The scope is so clear and at 25 yards and 4x magnification - it's hard not to miss. She needed to learn to shoot it and I started her on the M&P 15-22 standing at 12 yards with a red dot. She was putting rounds in the bulls eye after she figured out how to adjust her hold.

I'm not sure I could have shot without a bench rest with the weight of it for too long and for her after 4 rounds of 7.62x51mm she was done :headscratch LOL

I'll get some pics of the targets soon.

Most excellent :thumbs2: . Wifey has yet to pull the trigger on our Bushy .308 but it will happen and I'll shoot some video. (Here's a short video of her shooting a range friend's .357 magnum Colt Python, it was his duty weapon when he was LEO in El Paso.)
