Re: UPDATE: 1/17/13
Nice! That all federal acts, laws, executive orders, agency orders, and rules or regulations of all kinds with the purpose, intent, or effect of confiscating any firearm, banning any firearm, limiting the size of a magazine for any firearm, imposing any limit on the ammunition that may be purchased for any firearm, taxing any firearm or ammunition therefore, or requiring the registration of any firearm or ammunition therefore, infringes upon Texan’s right to bear arms in direct violation of the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, and therefore, any such law is not made in pursuance of the Constitution, is not authorized by the Constitution, and thus, is not the supreme law of the land, and consequently, is invalid in this State and shall be further considered null and void and of no effect in this State.

Texas Legislature @TX_Legislature
SB 182 Introduced: Relating to the carrying of concealed handguns on the campuses of and certain other locations associated with institutions of higher education. http://www.legis.state.tx.us/tlodocs/83 ... 00182I.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I don't particularly like 2 things I saw skimming it quickly
1) Purports to...Ostensibly gives governmental entity public schools authority to post 30.06 signs and make rules ... might be ok in some instances
So, (If other legislation passes) it could end up that at my nieces elementary school, I could carry, but people whose kids go to elementary school on a college campus ... can not
2) .... I would have left hospitals alone I like the old (i) way in that they are already required to post a 30.06 sign, but it's kind of ... people don't read down to the exceptions (i)... but I like the attempt to clarify school hospitals versus Government/Private hospitals, though most school hospitals are also government entity hospitals where 30.06 .... results sort of like city council govt meeting posting a 30.06 on govt property .... ok

(c) Except as provided by Subsection (d) or (e), an
institution of higher education or private or independent
institution of higher education in this state may not adopt any
rule, regulation, or other provision prohibiting license holders
from carrying handguns on the campus of the institution.
(d) An institution of higher education or private or
independent institution of higher education in this state may
establish rules, regulations, or other provisions concerning the
storage of handguns in dormitories or other residential facilities
that are owned or leased and operated by the institution and located
on the campus of the institution.
(e) A private or independent institution of higher
education in this state, after consulting with students, staff, and
faculty of the institution, may establish rules, regulations, or
other provisions prohibiting license holders from carrying
handguns on premises that are owned or leased and operated by the
institution and located on the campus of the institution.
....
(the quirky part)
g) This section does not permit a person to possess a
concealed handgun, or go with a concealed handgun, on the premises
of a preschool, elementary school, or secondary school that is
located on the campus of an institution of higher education or
private or independent institution of higher education if the
institution gives effective notice under Section 30.06, Penal Code.

(f) This section does not permit a person to possess a
concealed handgun, or go with a concealed handgun, on the premises
of a hospital maintained or operated by an institution of higher
education or private or independent institution of higher education
if the hospital gives effective notice under Section 30.06, Penal
Code. In this subsection, "hospital" has the meaning assigned by
Section 241.003, Health and Safety Code.

Re: UPDATE: 1/17/13
So under SB 182, (for example) Trinity could opt out, yet UMHB could opt in? And one could carry on the A&M Kingsville campus but not on the Santa Gertrudis (?) Academy campus?
Would there be an effect if this and HB 508 passed? Would UT-Austin have to pay a fine if the regents decided to plaster 30.06 signs all around campus, since it's a state run institution?
