I listened to this unfold from the call to the "officer needs assistance" that broadcast on APD radio. It is an nteresting story. I sure hope the wound to the officer is very minor. I am wondering, did the armored vehicle driver attempt to protect himself or just give up the loot and gun? Where did this robber with the "potential" criminal history obtain his gun?
A police officer was wounded in a shootout Monday afternoon after a man robbed an armored vehicle driver at a North Austin store, took his gun and led police on a high-speed chase to a Northeast Austin shopping center, officials said.

Re: APD officer shot, armored guards gun taken during robber
a few things come to mind
the armored driver isnt paid enough to put his life on the line for the loot, as long as no one else in his purvue is in danger, and even then???
the policeman was shot after the truck was taken
the next thought is the drivers company policy may be to let the truck go to save lives , this one is probably most likely.
let the law enforcement take the charge to retrieve the truck or its takers
drivers dont have a protect and serve position, like the police. they only are to pick up and deliver money or other valuable cargo.
will be interesting to see what follows in comments.
is his life worth the dollars he is carrying?
trucks have gps and i would think a remote shutdown feature through qualcom or the companies dispatch, maybe even a LOCK YOU IN feature for bad guys??
to bad a policemen was injured

In the future, a crime like this will be front page news nationwide as a legal gun was stolen.

I can see the antis salivating and saying "You see, they can take away the gun from a highly trained security officer. What chance do you "Rambo wannabes" would have? You're gonna get your guns taken away from you and shot with your own guns. You are delusional for thinking you are safe carrying a gun"

I was at the local Walgreens this morning...armored truck out front....armed guard putting money into the ATM....had ear buds/headphones on...he was right next to the check-out line, just a few feet away from me...he seemed somewhat nonchalant/oblivious...he would look around every now and then but from his demeanor / look I would not say he was on "high-alert" for a bad situation. The armored truck driver was sitting in the cab and talking on the phone...
