Shawnee lady changes robbers plans

Armed with a gun and ready to shoot, a Shawnee woman defended her home as man broke down her door. It happened in broad daylight and she didn't back down.

Good for her!

If that was me standing there with a handgun, as soon as the door was kicked in, the lead would start flying.

Yeah I agree..
I live on a lot of land and if someone was dumb enough to try this stunt they would have lead chasing them for a good couple hundred yards..

We're on acreage out here in ranch country - our house is about 600' from the main gate. Shortly after we bought our place, we had just finished breakfast and heard a loud knock at the door. Holy cow! For a moment I was almost stunned, looked out the glass on the door and saw this guy standing there. He looked like the typical good ol' boy out here so I opened the door to find he was my neighbor to the east.

He jumped the fence and walked to the house because he didn't have our phone number. This was before we had handguns, if that would happen now, I would have had our SR40 ready to go behind my back with dear wife backing me up.

Being out here where the neighbors are few and far between, having the handguns always available (mine is always on my hip) is very comforting :fire .

My point: Criminals at a distant remove (who aren't snipers of course...) aren't generally a threat to life and limb, therefore you can't justifiably shoot them.

I live on acreage in rural America.

As I stated, it's quite difficult legally to shoot at criminals who are quite some distance away, as they present no immediate threat.

Shoot people who are no immediate threat and the legal consequences will be dire for the shooter.

If someone kicks my door in then this means they began breaking laws minutes before them actually getting to my door. It started with breaking and entering at my gate/ fence. Then they continued breaking the laws coming down my drive or pasture. Then kicking in my door. So if they got lucky somehow and didn't get shot at the door, then until the point that they are clearly not a threat to me and my family, meaning they have left my property and are moving quickly down the road, they will be shot at.

Unfortunately for the bad guys trying this is the guy that owns the property across the road from me doesn't like bad guys either and will most likely be meeting them half way down my drive after hearing my shots fired and yelling he hears. Hopefully the bad guys are smart enough not to have guns drawn.

I know it sounds like crazy talk but really it about illusion. You make the bad guys think your crazy and they will not return. ;-)

"...then until the point that they are clearly not a threat to me and my family"

Here we agree, beyond this point, don't shoot, but if you do, I wish you luck.

It doesn't matter to me if the wolves walk on four legs or two. Once the individual specimen is proven to be a threat, abundant history shows that threat continues as long as they breathe air.
