Alex jones debating Piers Morgan

This is scarey. I do not think Alex Jones should be speaking for our 2nd amendment rights. He is playing right into Morgan's hand.

Yep, I just watched the exchange on YouTube ... that is probably the single most damaging thing to happen to the 2A cause since the Connecticut tragedy itself.

:banghead:

Brilliant political spin by Morgan to invite Jones on his show. And the last bit with Dershowitz just makes me ill.

Thank God this happened during the college football championship game ... but I'm sure CNN will replay the "1776" bit over and over again for the next two weeks.

Have I told anyone here lately just how much I despise the mass media in this country? :mad5

Filibustering is almost never good. His plan backfired.

This is what I wrote to the "Infowars" people. Its probably as useful as writing to Dianne Feinstein, but SOMEBODY has to call this guy out as doing us no favors. I know his core supporters might have loved it but it was a DUMB MOVE.
I am writing to you because I feel that Mr. Jones did the Second Amendment no favors by appearing on Piers Morgan’s program. I own semi-automatic rifles. I feel I shouldn’t be forced to register any firearms because I’m not a criminal and I’ve done nothing to warrant that ill-treatment. I’m a veteran of 20 years military service and I take the oath I took to support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic, very seriously. I can’t stand Piers Morgan’s smug, elitist attitude and hate even seeing his face or hearing his snarky voice. But Mr. Jones, as sincere as he seems to be, and even if correct, gave the bad guys on the political left a GIANT sound-bite to use against us. The little showpiece with Alan Dershowitz at the end of the program shows just how they are going to use this against us: by portraying all of us otherwise law-abiding firearms owners as “crazy” or “paranoid”. I agree that many of the political left do want to take our guns away, and I also understand that dictators have historically done so as a prelude to violently coercing their populations. But this fight MUST be won differently at this point. We ARE law-abiding, we HAVEN’T done anything wrong and we do NOT deserve this mess. I know that Mr. Jones is a dedicated and fired up guy, but he really needs to think about what he has done here, and come up with something to fade this off. It’s not going to be easy and the anti-2A types are building steam for their schemes. But the FBI crime statistics are on OUR SIDE, not theirs. THAT is what needs to be hammered home, again and again. So, please, don’t give them any more ammo then they already have, thanks.

After the Piers vs. Larry Pratt meltdown, CNN needed some low hanging fruit. CNN, just like FOX, MSNBC, etc. pre-screens their guests to get the most entertainment value (i.e. better ratings). That was not news, just entertainment. Its a good lesson why, when debating anything - especially 2A, keep calm and collective. Use factual data (memorized, especially if you are on TV), and remember that you represent more than yourself. Keep emotions out of the debate. 100% of anything dumb you say or do can and will be used against you in today's media.

Personally, I think its best to remind people that your number one concern is your personal safety (and that of your family), general public safety, and to empathize with the victims of gun violence. Nobody wants to see another Newtown - we (both sides of the 2A debate) can agree on that. If we can passionately communicate this to the undecided, they will listen. The undecided generally aren't concerned about gun rights or politics (While they probably do and just don't know it!); they care about making sure this never happens again. It will also be obvious to those with common sense that there are a lot of closed-minded people, mostly in Washington using this tragedy for political gain instead of justice for the 26 victims.

Once you have a rapport with a person who doesn't know or understand, you can then begin to educate about the 2A, the difference between a magazine and a clip, assault rifles, etc. I've always thought John Stossell has done a good job of communicating this (vs. someone like Nugent). Wayne also did a great job in his speech.

While Jones is doing the 2A no favors with respect to the folks who watch Morgan's show, I will emphatically agree that the purpose of the 2A is so that the citizen can protect one self from a tyrannical, and over reaching, government.

It was a sad display and I was truly embarrassed for his behavior as I have a few anti-gun friends/family and, by association, they have lumped me in with that dink.
