I had a somewhat similar experience several years ago. While I was being followed I called the dispatch opertor for the constables that patrolled my neigborhood. The dispatcher told me to stop so that the constables could find me. I told her I did not want to stop and asked that the constables meet me at another location. When I got to that location two cruisers were waiting for me and the guy following me. When the guy following me saw the cruisers he broke off the chase and fled.

If you truly fear for your safety, especially if you think the issue could escalate, always call your local PD or 911. If it escalates and the other person calls in first, they are automatically the victim and you are the attacker.

Road rage are no good. In my experience responding to these they usually escalate to the point that both sides are at fault. You held your cool which is good.

I responded to one once that had escalated to the point of a physical assault. When we went to arrest that guy, he pulled out a weapon on us. I had to use lethal force to stop him. I DO NOT like road rage calls.

Depending on your driving skill, road and traffic conditions, and the relative capabilities of your vehicle and the pursuer's, stopping can be a pretty good idea; wait for the bozo to get even with your back bumper, and take off hard while he's still got to get back to his vehicle, get in, and put it in gear. A few seconds of you moving while he's stopped can be a big advantage in getting far enough ahead to lose him.

Not something I'd want to try in daytime traffic, but I've done it before on country roads before cell phones became popular. Living in a college town and working night shifts, it wasn't uncommon to happen on a bunch of drunks looking for a fight any way they could get one. Of course, if I could get them onto county roads, I could leave them in a field pretty much every time, and report the wreck before they could walk to town and find another drunk to pull them out of the fence.

What did the constables do?

Had it been me, I would have driven straight to the police station and parked there. If I had remembered to do it, I would have called 911 while driving there and asked the police to have someone meet me out front, described my vehicle and appearance, etc.
