Good Range Day

I went to the range this evening to shoot the new P250/40. Ran 100 Winchester rounds through it. I had 2 FTE on the first clip, 1 on the second and another one fourth or fifth. I'll be back in the next couple of days for another 100 or so rounds. It seems to be dialed in real good. Took my 11 y/o son and he ran about 100 rounds from the 22 and 50 from a rental 380. He's shooting better than daddy is.

and speaking of Glock.....yesterday my Wife and I shot my BILs Glock 17 compensated, with laser optic sights - wonderful ! I need to get the name of which sights he installed as I want to put them on my Wife's Glock 19 (would get the same as his for myself, but, I've got all I need)

I don't know where I was when the P938 was released but I want one. This forum costs me so much money

as for your FTEs, I have never shot or held a p938 be if its anything like the p238 (and it looks identical) anticipating recoil will cause it to FTE all day. (more so then any of the other guns I own) I have handed my 238 to some one and had it jam every other round for them while it functions flawlessly for me.

The other thing to check, is to make sure its cleaned / lubed properly (although I doubt that is an issue on your new gun)

Don't flame me for saying so, but I've always found WWB ammo to be hit or miss (pun semi-intentional). Both I and a few shooting buddies have experienced too many FTF (failure to fire) and FTE (failure to eject) with WWB for it to be pure coincidence. The problem seems to be more prone to new guns in which the springs are still relatively tight. However, both my buddy's well worn P226 and my 1994 P228 have been having problems with the slide not locking open on empty mags (using various mags) when using WWB; changing ammo rectifies the problem. Only thing I can think of is its just under-powered to the point where its not cycling the slide far enough to lock it.

Having said all that, most of these issues were all experienced with Sigs, though there was an XD9 and a Glock 23 that experienced the same problems. I'd try changing ammo and try it again. Sometimes running a few hundred rounds of something a little hotter (Speer Lawman?) will help with the break in. After that you could probably run WWB without an issue.

My usual break-in is to start with light loads. If the gun runs without incident then I gradually step up to heavier loads until I'm shooting the heaviest loads that I can find. I keep the heavy loads for a while & then drop down the the load that I intend to be my regular shooters. If I run into trouble with the light loads, I immediately jump up to the heaviest loads and work my way down to the regular loads. So far, I haven't run into any long-standing problems. My Glock 17 has a few thousand rounds with 0 issues. My Beretta Nano had a couple of hiccups with 115gr WWB, so I ran a couple of boxes of Speer Lawman 147gr before backing down to 124gr. The Nano hasn't so much as burped at the 124gr or even 115gr since going hotter & backing it down.

I have had a lot of FTE issues with my Sig P238. It is even mangling the business end of the casings more than a third of the time. I tried 8 different types of ammo for it and waited until it was past any break in period before contacting Sig. They sent me a postage paid overnight return label to send it in for repair or replacement.

This really presented me with a conundrum because my only other conceable pistol is a S&W/Walther P99 which suffered a broken recoil spring after 1000 rounds or so and after two heavy days of shooting. Unfortunately S&W and Walther no longer provide parts for this series and sold the parts manufacturing to Umarex, which wont actually take it over until Jan 2013.
So rather than go without a pistol while I wait for the 238 to be repaired, I decided to get another pistol, and to step it up to a subcompact 9mm.

I really like the little Sigs and have seen many posts about them being reliable and that if they did have a problem Sig usually corrected it quickly and with excellent CS. Since they were so good to me on the 238 and since I really like the SA only subcompact frame of the 238, I purchased a Sig P938 today.

I got them to throw free range time in with the pistol (and a free Dr. Pepper) and put 50 rounds of Federal Range and Target (white box) 115gr FMJ, 20 rounds of PMC Starfire 124gr SFHP (the only self defense 9mm they had left), about 25 rounds of Winchester 115gr FMJ (100 round value pack), 25 rounds of Winchester 147gr JHP Personal Protection (it was on sale a long time ago somewhere and was in my shooting bag), and 1 Federal Hydroshock I found in my bag (lol).

I had 0 FTE. I had 2 FTF with the first round of the FMJ rounds in the 7rd magazine. It is really hard to get the 7th round in the magazine when loading and when the FTF occurs it seems to not fully engage the round on the primer side, pushing the slide a little sent it into the chamber correctly. None of the JHP's exhibited this problem during range testing or at home. The FMJ's only do this when I manually pull back the slide and release it. I noticed that if I release it crisply it will not FTF and if I release the slide from the locked back position to engage the round it will not happen. The 7th round noses up in the clip more than the first 6. I decided to keep it loaded with 7rds for a few days at home to try and get the spring to relax a tiny bit, and carry it with 6+1 since I cannot get it to FTF with 6 in the magazine and did not have this problem at all when shooting, only when trying to insert a new clip into the unloaded pistol.

I ordered a second magazine so we can see if it is the magazine or something else. I am betting it is the magazine and some of the cheap white box FMJ's being a tiny bit longer than they should be.

I will post a second range report next time I go out.

@SigM4, When you say "Hotter" load, please expand on what you mean?

Also, why would the weight of the projectiles (I think mine were 165 grain) make a difference in the break in of the weapon, or if you get a FTE or not?
