Hello. My name is Red and I used to carry a .45. Now I carry a 9mm and it's getting easier to admit every day.

Someone set an "insurance fire" and didn't want the firefighters putting it out...just my guess, of course. Sad stuff, though.

No doubt. What is this world coming to when you get evacuated and searched?
Police say there is no longer an "active shooting" situation, but residents of the area are being evacuated, and police are searching them as they leave, the newspaper reported.

And then your home is searched. What's up with that?
The whole strip’s been evacuated,” Damico said. “They’re evacuating all of the houses and going through them.”

Very sad. I am not there, don't know facts, but do know normal tactics. In an active shooting scene, you don't want to let a 2nd shooter get by and escape. Since the incident just happened, it would be normal to make sure the suspect(s) doesn't slip out. They may not know how many there are, ect. In reading the reports there are many shot, some dead. Searching people as you pulled them out for weapons would be normal. You do not want to let a suspect escape. They are probably also going door to door to make sure there are no additional suspects and/or victims. Exigent circumstances allows for that. They would not be searching drawers, ect. Only places that could hide a person. If they then want to do a search for contraband, they need consent or a search warrant.

From a news source:

(AP) -- The police chief in Webster, N.Y., says that four firefighters were shot while responding to a blaze in the town near Rochester and that two are dead.

Chief Gerald Pickering says "one or more shooters" fired at the firefighters Monday morning. Officials say they had arrived at the scene of the blaze near the Lake Ontario shore around 6 a.m.

Officials say a fire started in one home and spread to two others and a car. Officials say there is no active shooter at the scene.

I wonder if the gun had
~Pistol grip (or "handle")
~bayonet lug
~flash suppressor/threaded barrel
~telescoping stock
~grenade launcher
or detachable magazine or light rail?

Those things make guns do bad things in New York, especially the already evil looking black guns.

Austin has "light rail" but it's a train, and guns are allowed on it..

Lucky for the firefighters the NY LEO's did not start shooting! More firefighters could have been killed with their lack of training and accuracy! :biggrinjester:

You have evidence that the police in NY STATE are more inaccurate and lack training than other police throughout the country? Rochester is a long way from NY CITY.

NYS has strict gun laws and felons aren't allowed to have them, so how could this happen?

Clearly we need more gun laws to prevent this from happening again.

This is not the time, nor the place, to make light of another cowardly, gun caused murder. In fact, there is no time nor any place for yukkin' it up over any senseless murder; especially, when the victims were risking their lives to save the property and perhaps lives of others.

Just trying to make the point that multiple existing laws were broken because we know antis will exploit the case to call for even more laws.

Maybe they will, maybe they won't. Did not Wayne LaPierre predict this would happen somewhere, somehow in his NRA position statement of earlier this week?

I thought that NY defacto assault weapons ban and strict gun control is good detterence for criminals for committing another kill. That killer who killed with hammer his own kin and grandma should be killed the say way with a hammer-drill and never let lose on the street. I thought that being locked up is a good lesson in the correctional facility. What a joke. :grumble :grumble :grumble

There is a difference between making the sarcastic observation that nonsensical gun laws are useless versus "yukkin' it up". Obviously, no one is laughing at the poor souls who were murdered.

The gunman who ambushed four volunteer firefighters, killing two, in upstate New York had spent 17 years in prison for beating his grandmother to death with a hammer in 1980, police said.

he could not legally own firearms.
http://www.kcentv.com/story/20420576/tw ... ent-ambush" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They need another law, One that says that it's illegal to illegally use weapons you can't legally have for illegal purposes to do illegal things against which there is a law. That should stop criminal behavior.

Bans on hammers and guns won't fix this man

The question should not be what can we ban to keep them away from this man, the question should be
why was a guy who kills Grandmothers with hammers on the street unsupervised?
