Gun Gifts & AR's for Christmas... (opinions wanted)
So this Christmas I'm giving some of my family guns as gifts. One in particular is an AR for my wife. I'm also receiving an AR for Christmas (I had to purchase it because it's easier with a CHL). Given recent events and the fact that 2 of my family members that will be staying at my house are liberals my wife has concerns about the AR being opened on Christmas. Now, my wife has no idea that she's getting one so there will be 2 AR's opened potentially for Christmas.
My wife is the kind of person that wants to make everyone happy and comfortable and she's concerned that my 2 family members that live in the left will be upset by the AR's being opened at Christmas. I see her point given recent events but I don't subscribe to the gun control hysteria and it is my house after all. I wanted to see what the group thought is the best course of action here. Do I open the AR's as planned and just tell the lefties to deal with it or do I put them aside, spoil the AR surprise for my wife and sons, and open them after or before the family leaves/arrives.
Thanks!!

Re: Gun Gifts & AR's for Christmas...
Well, my advice is worth what it costs so here goes,
My wife is the same way yours is. I would opt to open the ARs before or after the 2 family members in question are out of the picture. One, it would make your wife not worry so much during the process and obvious admiration period afterwards. Two, do you really want to spend your Christmas defending your beliefs to family members.
The whole situation has uncomfortable written all over it.
But hey, I'm just a guy on a forum, thats my .02.

I'm sensing a pattern here. I guess I'll be listening to "She Who Must Be Obeyed" (for those that needed help with the acronym)

I agree. Defuse the situation my not having the situation. Opening the gifts privately, before or after, is a small price to pay to have an enjoyable holiday.

I allow democrats in my house.... I married one .....her first anniversary present was a sig p250 in 9mm... Then her Christmas present was a ruger LCP. I think I have sorta converted her to a more moderate point of view...still primarily democrat...but I love her and I know not to bring up the firearm issue with her parents...mom won't touch them and dad sees one and wants to take it to the range......
With all that said use your better judgement and do what you feel is best for your enjoyment of the holiday season...but I say make the gift exchange/opening with your wife as private as possible so you both gain maximum enjoyment.

Normally I try and avoid it but my sisters are both engaged to democrats. For their sake they are welcome in my home.Ericstac wrote:you allow democrats in your house?

I'm giving my adult daughter a pistol for Christmas, per her request to "Santa".
This will be private and prior to the group gift-opening.
