San Antonio Range, close to BAMC

#1

Post by E.Marquez »

Fellow TXCHL members..
I am looking for a range, usable for guests, in or close to San Antonio, the closer to BAMC the better.

I want to go up and take a Soldier of mine and his wife to the range... My Soldier, a Senior NCO, is/was an accomplished shooter,,, now he needs to learn to shoot again, minus two legs and an arm. His wife is also basically versed in shooting safety and knowledge, and wants to go do some range work with her new guns (Christmas presents)

So I need a range with wheel chair access, shooting bays that can be used from a wheel chair. RSO, or range owners that will not balk at letting us shoot, handle weapons in a way that is, well different then what you will typically see in a day at the range(but safe, I assure you though he is missing limbs, his mind is sharp.. there will be no flagging of friendly's when we train)

We will start with just pistol for the first outing...then move on to rifle and shotgun. At some point once he is fully outfitted with new legs and hand,,,, we will take it to that level as well.

If anyone can point me to such a range I would be grateful.

Never been there, but this new range is close

Also Cedar Ridge Range has individual shooting "bays" and may be more receptive to special needs because of this

I go here all the time. It is accessible and one can shoot seated at all pistol, rifle and shotgun ranges.

Armed not dangerous but potentially lethal.

These guys have a private range near the Bracken Range off of 3009. Not saying they will let you but, they are all vets and considering these circumstances, they may make an exception. Never hurts to ask.

Having been to most of the ranges in and around the S.A area, this is probably the best option for this particular situation.
But if all else fails, I'll second the vote for http://www.brackenrange.com/index.htm

Erik,

we live in the area, if you would like, let me know when and where, if we're able, my husband and I can come and join ya'l at the range. She might like another woman around...might not. entirely up to you.

I like Blackhawk range south of SATX. Would be about a 20-25 mi. drive down IH-35 S from SAMMC/BAMC. Their pistol range has sidewalk down the center with walk branches left and right at 7, 15 & 25 yds. preceeded by a covered area with tables.
