Is the event on company property?sobrnola wrote:EDIT
Ok I finally found it. It is not under a specific header but under the employee code of conduct and substance abuse policy (what the heck) and it states my company has the right to discipline me if I am in the possession of a firearm on company property. It goes on to describe the different ways I can be punished if I am found to be concealing or possessing a firearm on company property. So that tells me that I'm a NO GO for carry at a company event, right?

If the company is putting on the party, they are renting or leasing the facility. How is that different from leasing the home office? I vote that it could be argued that this is a violation of company policy.

No offense, but anything can be arguedgdanaher wrote: I vote that it could be argued that this is a violation of company policy
I stated above the following,
so it really depends on the companyTeamless wrote:mine has a no weapons policy while on the property, however at outside events we are allowed to carry.
I know this, as our HR guy is a gun guy, while he doesn't like the policy, he enforces it - on company property only, and off, he says carry away.
Concealed is concealed, and if caught, all you have to say is the policy says "on company property" or "I thought the policy mean on company property"

They don't have to argue anything. In Texas, they can terminate your employment without giving a reason.
The key to me is the language does not meet 30.06 requirements so it looks like it's legal to carry. Each of us has to decide for ourselves how much we like our job and the risk if we carry, and how much we like our life and the risk if we don't carry, and make a decision that's right for us.

Just wondering if carrying there falls under the "if there is alcohol don't carry"? I don't drink and was just wondering y'all s opinion or the laws involved.
Unless the company is renting the entire facility, it would be difficult to see how it could be argued that they were "in control" of the property. OTH, "concealed is concealed." Only you can decide if the risk is worth it, but there is no legal liability for getting found out. You could lose your job, but you won't get arrested for anything.Amenities Outside

Are spouses invited to this party?
If so and if they have a CHL, the spouses could carry without breaking any policies, assuming it is not otherwise posted.

Re: Company Party Carry???
Let me throw a fly in the ointment. Please be sure to refer to your employee handbook and see if there is any reference to carry at company sponsored functions or company property. The reason I mention the property is this, I worked for a company that would not allow carrying on company property, including property leased or rented by the company. If the company is leasing a closed off area of the establishment, or the entire establishment, you may not be in violation of state law, but could be in violation of company policy.

Re: Company Party Carry???
I guess since this will be a violation of company policy I will just leave my gun in my car. But I will be armed with 2 good knives and my self defense training...

AT contact distance, which is probably where you will be, the gun will not be your best bet probably. You will be well armed for CLOSE quarters as you described.
Carry 24-7 or guess right.

Re: Company Party Carry???
Our yearly party, this year it's called a Christmas party, is NOT sponsored by the company directly, to throw a different wrench into the works, it is sponsored by the "employee fund" which is controlled by the employees not the company, therefore I carry.
Real gun control, carrying 24/7/365

Re: Company Party Carry???
Now my question is about my wifes company party. Since I am not an employee of her company is it ok for me to carry there as long as its not 30.06 or 51% posted?

Re: Company Party Carry???
I didn't carry at mine. The company provided limos, plus alcohol was involved and we have a company policy against carry, so I left it in the car.
I like to keep this handy... for close encounters.

Designated driver so I didn't drink, so I carried at the company party at HMNS last week. Nobody cared.
