Taurus Judge's Barrel...

#1

Post by erick619 »

I just got back from the range with one of my co-workers. We were there for about an hour and she was using my P226 for 55 minutes of that hour. She wanted me to shoot her Taurus Judge for kicks so I loaded her up with qty 5, .410 2 1/2 000BUCK and walked up to the firing line. I pulled the hammer back, took aim, squeezed off the first round and KABLOOM! It didn't seem like it sounded right and the three buck shots were about 3 feet lower than my POA. I stood there dumbfounded and tried to figure out what went wrong... I looked at the revolver and the barrel was missing?! :confused5. I called the range cold and walked up to find the barrel and there it was, lying 7 yards away from me in the dirt. I have no idea what happened. Below are pictures of the aftermath. We were both happy that it didn't blow up in my hand and that this occurred at the range when it could have easily been at her home when her life depended on it. Please tell me what you think happened. Thanks!

Whoa. I know basically nothing about those revolvers...

Is it rated for that ammo?

If it is, i'd be on the phone with Taurus ASAP.

Certainly give Taurus a call. They should send a pickup ticket for it and probably will send you back a new gun.

What happened was you just convinced me never to buy one.

Ditto. Have heard from a few people this gun wasn't on their list of must haves either. You are lucky. Glad you weren't hurt. Yikes!

One small barrel blows off and you are poised to trash the whole concept!

And I had considered a Rossi Circuit Judge rifle based on that pistol design ... I just un-considered it.
I like every Taurus I ever owned though, can't convince me to sell my Snubby .357, my PT58, mt PT709, nor my PT92, all excellent.

I've been trying to convince my dad to buy one of these to carry around their 13 acres as a snake gun. I'm going to shut up about it now. That looks pretty scary.
I looked online and saw lots of people have used the 000 buck in it without issue, so it must be rated for it.

Wow!

Was this gun cleaned and inspected before the range? I would think. I don't own one. I understand the concept, I just have no need for it.

Definitely call Taurus. They, and perhaps others (customers) need to know.

From the pictures I would say it was a manufacturing defect. Bore obstructions result in burst barrels or nothing at all. Contact Taurus and send it in. When it gets back sell it or trade it and buy another gun for personal protection. I am unimpressed with the performance of the .410 bore as a defensive round. Loading it with .45 Colt ammunition is OK but it's an awfully big shooting iron for carry.

I am constantly unimpressed with the TV ads for the Judge; just carry a 9mm and learn to shoot.
