Remind me again why we can't carry AND vote??

#1

Post by PUCKER »

???

I know, it's not legal to do so...but why? What is the logic (lack of?) / rationale for this? :tiphat:

Just got back from early voting, that's why I am posting this, and posting this here (Mods - hope I have the right forum for it).

That sight/activity would not go over well where most Texans vote.

Because everyone knows that the mere presence of a gun, even if it unseen, will cause people to be intimidated. :biggrinjester:

Back when I lived in Ohio, I volunteered as a Republican "poll watcher" and was regularly assigned in the most heavily Democratic inner-city neighborhood precinct. I was there to observe and protect against voter fraud.

Never quite had the Black Panthers try to intimidate me, but there were others. I sincerely wish I had been able to be armed, but the precincts were typically in schools.

We should be allowed to carry there too. I sure hope they (lawmakers) make some changes in the law this upcoming year. :waiting:

Oh, I agree we should be allowed to carry anywhere, although I'd be willing to listen to someone argue against prisons or jails.

Sure. Those are places where LEO generally can't carry either, but there's no reason someone with a CHL shouldn't be legally able to carry everywhere a LEO can while not in the actual discharge of their duties. If a cop can carry while voting during their lunch break, no citizen with a CHL should be denied the same confluence of rights.

I guess that when you are not being weighed down by a gun and an id, you can move through the line faster.

The real reason is they want decent people to be intimidated by those thugs. If decent people carry concealed, it intimidates nobody because it's concealed, but it allows the decent people to stand up and be counted at the polls, instead of being afraid of the thugocrats. No other explanation makes logical sense. It's as silly as prohibiting a concealed bible at polling places by screaming separation of church and state.

During the mid-term elections there was a cop at my voting location standing in line in front of me. He was in uniform, but his holster was empty. I asked him about it and he said it was illegal for him to carry at a polling place while off-duty. He said firearms are only legal for officers who are in the process of discharging their duty.

I'm not sure if he was right or wrong. It's just what he told me.
