In my less-than two week tenure on the TX-CHL Forum, I have learned a great deal from all of my fellow members. Among what I've learned, I consider the most important information to be that which deals with "oops-es", "uh-ohs", and "d'ohs". Thus, I share...
If anyone read my "ANSWER NEEDED IN THE NEXT 15 MINUTES" thread, you know I was off to by some bulk ammo. I ran out of time before work and actually didn't get to Academy until today. So, there I am, standing by the counter and looking over at my soon-to-be-purchased box of 250 ct. Remington UMC .40 S&W ammo, when I realize there is a man trying on an Uncle Mike's shoulder holster next to me. Not only did he have it all twisted up, but he was wearing it backwards (open end of holster facing 6:00)
I looked and realized that there was a gun in the holster. Yes, a gun... in the holster. I remained calm, looked at the salesman, and gestured my eyes to his customer. We were the only three people within 50 feet, so it's not like the openly displayed weapon was going to cause a stir, but still, it was an OPENLY DISPLAYED WEAPON.
The salesman--quite politely and professionally, I might add--asked the customer if he was a police officer. The man chuckled and announced that he was certainly not. The salesman asked then if he was a CHL holder. He said yes, handed over his license, and went on adjusting the holster. The salesman said sir, I don't know what the law is in Utah, but here in Texas, the "C" in "CHL" stands for "concealed". I enjoyed a silent laugh.
He seemed confused, nay, shocked, that Utah law (open carry, for those who don't know) may not be national law. I had to leave shortly after, but the lesson stuck.
USE YOUR HEAD! GUN LAWS ARE JUST AS IMPORTANT AS GUN SAFETY, PEOPLE!

Funny story and a good point.
On a rescent trip to El Paso, we ventured into New Mexico for dinner with old friends. After a quick intenet search I learned that while in New Mexico I should not go armed into any establishment that sells alcohol, be it a grocery store, corner store etc. It's a no-no. Also had to leave the other guns in Texas, NM is a "one gun only" state.
