Local Gun store owner supports ammo ban

Just curious. How many of the posters here even live in the West Houston area? It is easy to say you will not support a business in Katy if you live for example in the Dallas Metro area or even on the other side of Houston.

I live less than 30 minutes from there, in Rosenberg. I've been in their old location a couple of times and in their new location a few times as well, before this. I'd rather drive to Wharton to shop at Carroll's, or to CS to shop at Champion, or to Independence Firearms in Brenham.

I travel extensively throughout the state, and have purchased guns at shops in Houston, Austin, E.G., Bishop, etv. I tend to buy higher-end guns as well - and have LOTS of contacts in the Houston area, all of whom have been told of this.

I live less than 5 miles from there, and I drive by that stores location to and from work, as well as taking my kids to and from soccer on the weekends. This would naturally be my primary "go to" place to buy guns, ammo, and use the range. Over the last 5 years, I have averaged approx $5,000 a year on these expenditures (guns, ammo, and range fees). None of that business will be going to this store.

I live 10-15minutes from him. I am very active in the competative handgun sports. I vote with my money. I do not spend money to see actors that use their wealth and fame to support issues that are not what I support. I do not spend money where CHL's are not welcome. I will not spend money at this establishment.

The original statement was not good, but the worst part of it could have been explained away or retracted had he chose to. I haven't read through all the follow up, but it sounds like he should have just stopped. He had and still has nothing to gain by continuing with the argument.

Honestly, he isn't the first business to catch hell like this and likely won't be the last.

Exactly what I thought... Appeasement and possibly to get more ppl to buy from him and not on-line. And yes, I live within 40-50 min so if they had something I wanted I would have made the drive... Not any longer. Heck I'm about to drive to Ammo to go next week and are planing on maybe making a trek to cheaper than dirt just to go... So yes to the previous question if I live close enough to boycott.

The problem is ... Just another inch of the camels nose in the tent ...

I work a few miles (less than 10) away from the shop. They have been advertising on the local AM conservative radio stations, and have enlisted a number of AM personalities for an upcoming event. I was thinking about going just to see the place and meet a few of the radio people.

I like the fact that gun stores are going more "mainstream", and that we have an AM radio show dedicated to gun stuff in Houston. That being said, the store owner has mishandled this situation from the start. You HAVE to know your audience (customers) and no amount of "damage control" is going to resonate with this crowd. You either think one way or the other. Politically correct wiggle room has no place here. If you are going to take a stand (either side) at least stick up to your statements and support them, or say that what you said was not what you believe....state what you believe and leave it at that. From the forums that I have read, that has not been done.

Either stand up to what you believe, or realize you are incorrect in your thinking and eat crow. Either way I would at least respect that. The way this is being handled currently has made my mind up to not go to his store...period.

I don't live near Katy, but I do have some friends in the area that want to go shooting. I don't plan to set foot at that place, if my friends want to go there, I won't join them.

I buy 95% of my ammo online, so what this guy was proposing didn't resonate too well with me... for firearm purchases, I do support my local gun shop(s), even if they're a bit overpriced (they're a nice bunch, and I appreciate their experience, input and enjoy the conversation).

It's either guys from 740 or 950 as those are the ones I listen to. I think Joe Pags (sp?) is in the advertisement. I was planning on going after work since it was in the neighborhood, but now I won't.

As my forum signature says, "Do, or do not, there is no try." Pick one side or the other. These days there is no room for center ground.

They're about four miles away from me. This particular uproar isn't why I don't shop there -- I visited their old location three times and found them arrogant each time, so didn't bother to visit the new place. With AJC now just a few miles away, there's no reason to frequent them at all.

I have heard them on the 950 as well.
