Unusual Request at Academy Sporting Goods
I was in Academy Sporting Goods in Mesquite the other day looking at guns. When I asked to see a particular gun, the sales guy said "I need to see your license." I was kind of dumb-founded - license? what license, my CHL? surely not, I thought...so I asked "My Driver's License?" "yes", I said something about that being very unusual but gave him my license anyway. He looked at my license but never responded to my comment. I've looked at guns at Academy before and never had this experience before. Its not like he was checking my age - I'm 56 so there's no mistaking me for being under 21.
Anybody ever have a similar experience?

At the Academy in Lewisville I asked to see a Para 1911 the salesmen handed me the weapon w/trigger lock in place. I handed it back and asked him to remove the trigger lock and he replied that he would not remove it!
I asked if this was store policy and he said no that he once handed a guy a shot gun and the guy loaded it and robbed him. I told him he was not going to sell many locked hand guns and left.

Tried both 9mils handed the wife the best one for her to try.Cosmo 9 wrote:At the Academy in Lewisville I asked to see a Para 1911 the salesmen handed me the weapon w/trigger lock in place. I was at the Lufkin store recently, and they would not remove the locks.
Nor, would they allow for more than two pistols to be out of the show case at any time.
Shopped elsewhere.
Have this on order for daughters carry weapon:

Yes sir & all that put together is why Academy is my last resort for firearms. CHL holders selling what they dont want is my first stop shopping center.
Good choice my friend.

Yeah I've had that happen to me a few times.(but I'm 25 and probably could pass for 21 in some peoples opinion).I usually just show them my CHL b/c it has my brithday date on it and obviously I'm over 21 if I have one right?
I've been carded at Gander Mtn., Academy and one little pawn shop.
Then I got carded at FreeBirds when I ordered a beer and I accidentally gave them my CHL instead of my DL b/c I keep them together in the same place in my wallet. It completely confused the guy at the counter. He was like,"uh I dont need to know anything about your gun I just need your age." Even though my b-day is on the CHL I just handed him my DL anyway b/c he was already confused enough.oops!

We were in one today. I just asked if they could take the lock off. The young man helping us, asked the other young man id it would be ok. "Yeah, they look safe."
So the misses chose to purchase a nice 6 inch stainless .357 Rossi. Small grip fits her perfectly. It was her first 4473. The young guy was visibly shocked to see her CHL. Sweet little grey haired grandma..
