Glad to see a bit of good press on a great story!

Officer Brian Harrision was escorting a funeral procession Friday when he pulled Temple over and wrote him a ticket for breaking into the procession. According to Phares, that's when Temple attacked Harrison. Police say Perry Stevens was walking outside of the Auto Zone on Greenwell Springs Road when he heard Harrison yelling for help. Harrison was reportedly on his back with Temple on top of him. That's when Stevens went to his car and grabbed his .45 caliber pistol.

Just came across this myself. The interesting thing to note is that the BG took four .45 rounds to the torso and did not relent, it took a headshot to put him down.

I transported a psych pt one time and noticed some small, round scars on his chest and asked his what happened.
Like i suspected he said he had been shot.
I asked him if he knew what caliber and he told be he was shot four times with a .40.
That made me think I should up to a .45 and even joked about it with my partner wight after the pt told me that.
Now I don't know....
I guess you'll just have to go Mozambique on everyone just to be sure and carry what you're most accurate with.

On a side note, the psych pt was probably hit with ball ammo and not a hollow point, as has been the case with most thugs I've had in my rig that have been shot in the past and survived.

Understand that a 9mm, while the same caliber diameter of a .380 has a much stronger charge behind the bullet. In turn you will get better penetration and shock capabilities.

I personally am a fan of muzzle energy to get impact and penetration. I carry Corbon Pow'rBall ammo in my 9x19mm CCW's. When you look at the specs, it is a 110 grain bullet, but due to the +P nature of the charge, assuming you are shooting a 4" gun, it has a muzzle velocity of 1475fps and 483 ft-lbs of energy. That is more velocity and muzzle energy than a .357 magnum round. The .45 version of the Pow'rBall has a slower velocity 1225fps, but the muzzle energy is 550ft-lbs due to the 165gr bullet. If you compare it to even their best .380 round, it has a 70 grain bullet, 1100fps and only 188ft-lbs of muzzle angry, way under half of the 9mm and a third of the .45.

So, the 9mm is a much preferred round over the .380 IMO. And while I do give up a little in the energy from the .45 to the 9mm, I accept that compromise for the lighter weight and concealability. If a person is willing to compromise for the same to go to a .380 for even less weight and more concealable, so be it, but I draw the line at giving up over 1/2 of my firepower.

Possibly. I don't disagree that the .22 is an ineffective round, but the .380 is still wimpy. Here is a comparison of standard rounds of .22, .380 and .40S&W on ft-lbs

If you don't hit anything important, it doesn't matter what caliber it is. Bigger calibers that expand just give one a better chance of hitting or nicking something important.

Well, I'm sorry to have drudged up an old headline. It popped up on my Google news alerts, which is usually only current news. Still, at least a bit of discussion came out of it.
