Sure I can, why? Because I OWN THE PLACE!
You can, but if a pattern can be shown that you are only giving the larger scoop to women you could have a problem.

HERE'S THE DEAL: THE BALDER, THE BETTER "THE MORE YOU SHINE THE CHEAPER YOU DINE!"
Right or Wrong? (legal or illegal?)
Legal.

Baldness affects men more than women, but if a bald woman came in she would receive the same discount. Baldness also does not discriminate based on race. It may be more prevalent in some races, but that's the same issue with women. And I am also sure that if a child came in with a bald head, they too, would receive the discount.

You may not have consciously discriminated, but subconsciously, you did. That's why I only say you might have a problem in this situation.

It seems that a big point being missed is that the law prohibits treating people differently if the different treatment is based on certain protected classes in the law. Under Maryland law:
§20–304 wrote:An owner or operator of a place of public accommodation or an agent or employee of the owner or operator may not refuse, withhold from, or deny to any person any of the accommodations, advantages, facilities, or privileges of the place of public accommodation because of the person’s race, sex, age, color, creed, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, or disability.
Despite the range being a privately-owned business:
§20–301 wrote:In this subtitle, “place of public accommodation” means:
...
(4) a retail establishment that:
(i) is operated by a public or private entity; and
(ii) offers goods, services, entertainment, recreation, or transportation;
...
As for Augusta and the like:
§20–303 wrote:This subtitle does not apply:
(1) to a private club or other establishment that is not open to the public, except to the extent that the facilities of the private club or other establishment are made available to the customers or patrons of an establishment within the scope of this subtitle;
(2) with respect to sex discrimination, to a facility that is:
(i) uniquely private and personal in nature; and
(ii) designed to accommodate only a particular sex; and
(3) to an establishment providing lodging to transient guests located within a building that:
(i) contains not more than five rooms for rent or hire; and
(ii) is occupied by the proprietor of the establishment as the proprietor’s residence.

Disability is also a protected class and it would apply to the wounded warrior and terminally ill patrons.

Yes, but he would not be discriminating against them. He would be discriminating against the healthy, but I don't think they are protected. Weird, huh?

I guess someone needs to tell The Arms Room to stop their monthly ladies night as well, as all men are prohibited.
And I guess that no more bars can have ladies nights.

Someone call your congressman!

I'm sorry, but that's the way it is. I didn't make these laws. I don't always like them either and I'm not the type of person that will sue someone or make a big stink about it. I'll protest with my freedom to choose where I do my business if it bothers me that much. Having a ladies day at the range does not bother me. Does that mean I am part of the problem because I have come to accept that discrimination? Probably.

Maybe situations like these have already been dealt with in some court. IDK

There will always be an argument that a portion of the population is being treated unfairly and one can manipulate that group into a protected class. If as a country we achieve 100% equality, we did so by sacrificing the very freedoms this country was founded on. All frivolous lawsuits seem to accomplish is taking more of those freedoms away.

:iagree: You can't please everyone. Some folks need to stop being so sensitive.

I don't have a problem with this guy running his business as he wants to run his business. I still remember the old, "We Reserve the Right to Refuse Service", signs. I also remember other signs :roll: from days gone by. I think in this instance, "A Ladies Day" is a good idea...for the ladies and for the sport.

If one doesn't like the way a business is run, shop/eat/shoot elsewhere. I am not condoning discrimination, I'm merely suggesting that we all have choices.

I can understand this guys view to a point. If they had turned him away from shooting that day because he was not a woman it may have been different, but he just had to pay when the women didnt. I dont understand his sense of entitlement to 200k. If anything he should seek his $15 back and perhaps find a new range if he is so put off by the range's decision to encourage women to come shoot. People nowadays looove to be the "victim", because that's where the money is! :mrgreen:
