Brown County Homicide
Re: Brown County Homicide
I haven't listened to the audio interviews. Is that where they claim the shot was 165 yards? I couldn't find that claim in either of the articles.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

I was getting ready to say 165 yards for an old man with questionable eye sight is one heck of a shotTxLobo wrote:seems the civilian shooter made the claim in his video interview that it was 165 yards.. according to the Chief, it was more like 50 yards..

Re: Brown County Homicide
Sure bet it seemed like 165 yards though. Even a 50 yard shot is pretty good with a handgun.

I thought he said 65 yards, but maybe he did say 165 and my bull filter cut it down to something reasonable. Still, cudos the the guy, saw what need to be done and did it. I feel bad for him having to live with the consequences of his decision and I hope he can move past it.

The audio interviews are good. . . he's very unassuming, and you can tell he just wanted to help out. Even in a clear situation like this, taking a life still weighs on him.
We need more citizens like this guy. Kudos to the LEOs who have been so supportive of him.
By the end of the shootout, the BG was using a 30-30 with a scope and the GG had a .357 magnum revolver and was standing behind the cab of an RV. Excellent shot!

Outstanding use of our 2a rights, right here.
Re: Brown County Homicide
I thought I heard him say 65 yards, too. And yeah, from the look in his eyes and face towards the end of the video, it seemed to me like it weighed on him. Tough decision and brave action on his part to do what he did to help save the officer's life, though.Jaguar wrote:I thought he said 65 yards, but maybe he did say 165 and my bull filter cut it down to something reasonable. Re: Brown County Homicide
He definitely said 165 yards, but is probably mistaken. The overall length of the oval-shaped RV park is about that distance at its widest point.
Not that it matters...He did a great job defending the officer and himself.

"Duvall said that the suspect complained to the victims that the dogs were defecating near his RV. Duvall said that the suspect allegedly became aggressive and shot the two dogs and then shot the husband and wife owners of the dogs..."
Little is known about Conner, who Grubbs said was somewhat of a nomad who had lived at the RV park the past 10 months..."He was kind of offbeat, more or less. What really set him off that day, I'm not really sure," the sheriff continued.
There was evidence Conner "had done some writing. A lot of times, he would set up in his trailer and write. But I read some of his writings, and they made absolutely no sense. It was more or less garble."
Apparently a nutcase...

Kinda neat though that the Gov wants to present the civilian with a "sniper rifle"...

165 yards is..... 50 meters, 165 feet. He just couldn't spell right. Pronunciation is lousy too. Still a heck of a shot.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.
