Your point really has no merit as a gunowner with a .22 could say the same thing. Smaller calibers, cost less to shot, its not rocket science. If I am in need of a gun in a self defense situation, I would rather have the .45 regardless of the cost of ammo.
Ever tried to find some cheap .25 Auto???
Well I guess for every rule there is an exception. But the rule usually holds true for smaller caliber less cost.

WEll I made it to Wally world and Acadamy today. Acadamy look like its going to have the cheaper over all. Pick 5 box of the CCI Blazer 50 rd boxes for $5.69 per box. $30 bucks out the door. There website pretty much list what they have. I did notice that the WWB 45 was listed at $20 at Wally world. I was rushed at Acadamy so I forgot until I was getting back in the car. Sorry. I'll try better next time. Good thing theres people on this forum that know more than I do about this stuff.

I have been using the monarch 9mm since I bought my cz romi and
2000 rds later have not had one failure. At 5.86 a box [ green box] it's good range ammo. I have also used the .223 in a mini14 and found it very good also.

Last week I bought 3 boxes of 9mm [green box] and the gave me a box of .40 also in a green box by mistake and didnt notice it till I got to the range, looked at the box where Monarch puts there everyday price and
it's been marked out with a black marker and a Academy sticker over
the Monarch price.
Monarch price 5.86
Academy markup over 9.00 ,asked why and the guy said it was brought
up to be in line with the other brands.
Wee bit of a profit there ?

Ya, I was just jaggin around...

I just bought some 9mm Monarch Steel Case today but it started raining before I could get any rounds off. I bought 300 rounds and plan on shooting about 200 tomorrow if the weather holds. I'll come back with a report of how they worked. They'll be coming out the barrel of a Glock 17.

I think the heart of the problem is copper (and subsequently brass) has gone WAY up in price in the past year or so. I think jacketing is a bigger factor here than the casings, as there's a lot more mass (and therefore expense) in a jacket.

Personally, I'm having a very difficult time finding decent JHP handgun ammo. My pistol shoots 9x18 Makarov, and it seems like a lot of manufacturers recently decided to stop producing much of it. I can find Silver Bear and Wolf aplenty, but everyone is running out of S&B and Hornady. I'm decently set for now on FMJ (ordered 1200 rounds of the S&B surplus stuff from aimsurplus while they had it), but my gun is kinda picky on JHP ammo, and Wolf/Silver Bear don't cut it. I found *1* box of Hornady XTP in town. The shop that I went to that normally carries it says that he's got it backordered from 3 different suppliers with no firm ETA.

Anyone know of good JHP ammo in 9x18 besides Hornady? I read that Speer used to make Gold Dot in 9x18, but apparently no longer. I just found that Georgia arms loads Gold Dot, so I may give them a try. I'm also considering Cor-bon Pow'rball, though they are a bit expensive at almost $1/round. I have read that they are good for penetration and and expansion, though.

It sounds like we're all seeing the price increase.

I'll probably need to get into reloading. I was hoping to put it off a little longer.

At the TSRA show in Feb. I bought 1000 roundsof 45ACP for $165.00. I usually go to the larger shows for ammo. Keeping brass now for reloading but will still buy if agood price is found.

I don't get it?
In Austin its the same thing, not sure about wally though, but i went to academy last night knowing that they would have the best price in winchester 9mm fmj, and ya 6.93 was the going price.

I've pretty much given up on anywhere else.

Cost is main reason I went to reloading....

Using Montana Gold bullets, CCI primers, Win 231 (4 lb cans) and range pickup brass.

my cost is about $13 per hundred for 45acp and $7 per hundred 9mm.

I probably could shave a buck or 2 off each if I could coordinate better on the group buys around here.

I paid for my press/dies/tumbler etc with savings from first 1000 rounds of 45acp I loaded and will save enough for a dillon 650 from loading about 2000 rounds each of 45 and 9.

Definitely a huge savings reloading. I just started and figure that I'm spending about $5 per 100 rounds to reload them. I pick up brass at local IDPA matches and I get to load them how I want to. Good stuff. I've considered selling my stash of ammo to buy bullets, brass powder and primers.
