He said "I consider myself to be a strong supporter of the 2nd Ammendment"

"There is no place for weapons designed to rapidly fire at humans"

As we all know, this guy is an idiot but so are the people that keep him in office.

From WikipediaThe man charged in the Colorado shootings, James Eagan Holmes, was armed with a Smith & Wesson M&P .223 semi-automatic rifle, similar to an AR-15 assault rifle, along with other firearms.
The AR-15 was first built by ArmaLite as a selective fire assault rifle for the United States armed forces. Because of financial problems, ArmaLite sold the AR-15 design to Colt. The select-fire AR-15 entered the US military system as the M16 rifle. Colt then marketed the Colt AR-15 as a semi-automatic version of the M16 rifle for civilian sales in 1963.[8] The name "AR-15" is a Colt registered trademark, which refers only to the semi-automatic rifle.
Next: Mr Governor, are you saying that my M1903-A3 Springfield rifle, designed to fire as rapidly as the state of the art would allow, at humans, has no place in my collection? Or my M1 Garand, or my M1 Carbine?Beiruty wrote:Welcome to the debate.
First Question,
Mr. Governor, Can you guarantee the safety of my person, the safety of my kids and safety of my family, Can you post armed national guards of Illinois for my protection on my front door 24/7?
Why stop there? What about LEVER ACTIONS? They were made to shoot rapidly at people, even if it was quite a long time ago...wasn't there a Civil War expression about a rifle that could be loaded on Sunday and shot all week, something to that effect? What about when they created the first breech loaders, instead of having to pour the powder down the barrel and ram the ball and wadding home? That change to cased ammo made it shoot more rapidly, so they could shoot people faster, too.jimlongley wrote:Next: Mr Governor, are you saying that my M1903-A3 Springfield rifle, designed to fire as rapidly as the state of the art would allow, at humans, has no place in my collection? I wonder if he knows what a handguard is.

Seriously. Springfield Armory is in Illinois, is it not? From the sound of it, every single one of their M1A rifles can no longer be manufactured, delivered or sold, and neither can their 20 round magazines. And that's just the rifles. Most of the XD/XD(m) line is also now illegal to make in Illinois. This effectively puts Springfield out of business, unless they move.NRA-ILA wrote:Quinn rewrote the entire bill as an amendment to the Illinois Criminal Code that includes an onerous ban on the manufacture, possession, delivery or sale of commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms (inaccurately referred to as “assault weapons”), .50 caliber rifles and cartridges and “high capacity” magazines in Illinois.
I got no pull with Perry, but I'd be happy to write some letters. How about a "Texas Edition M1A?"Heartland Patriot wrote:That governor of theirs is crazier than I thought he was. TAM, do you think we could get a letter campaign together, and target Illinois gun manufacturers (and Governor Perry, so he could get things working down here) to get 'em to move to Texas? Seems like we'd be getting some GREAT help from the Governor of Illinois!
