It's not often that you get to stand up for your rights. 4th amendment. If we don't use them we will lose the rights. No ill will intended towards the police as I also would have nothing that I was aware of to hide. They have passed a new law in austin where the APD cannot search your vehicle unless you sign a form giving up the right. They can always get a warrent.

Kudos to the lawmakers who passed that law. I'm guessing it's a city ordinance since it only applies to Austin, so I'm in the highly unusual position of praising the Austin City Council, I guess.

This takes out all possibility that a verbal response will be taken out of context, and hopefully will also cause people to think twice before they willingly give up their rights.

No consent to any search. I learned this as a HS Student and the LEO got really Irrate till the Chief showed up and joked you had Mr. Robinson for Civics and Government didn't you. He told the LEO to either arrest me if he had PC or to give me my paperwork back and let me go. To make a long story short my family had to finally have a Lawyer send a letter to the Chief and Mayor before this LEO left me alone. :patriot:

My CHL instructor said when asked for ID to just show your DL and CHL license. There is no penalty for not showing the CHL, but if you don't you will probably get some sort of a lecture about showing it the next time. My own personal opinion is to show it whether carrying or not. Why go through more grief than you absolutely have to when stopped by a LEO, and why make the LEO's job any tougher than it already is. :tiphat: .

I show both DL and CHL whenever asked for ID by LEO. Never been asked about or subjected to a search. Of course the last two times I was stopped was by border patrol driving thru southern NM (they shut down I-10 and pull over everyone). I roll down all the windows and hold up both forms of ID. Didn't come to a complete stop either time before being told to have a nice day.
