Could it happen here?

The discussion has taken over a few threads over there, and "anygun", "tomneal" have contributed there with some good discussion/points...

What concerns me is if we are patronizing local "Texas" gunshows, how much of this type of intrusion is being promoted by certain entities, and can activity like this get the proper squashing it deserves, considering the territory...

Or would it actually be attempted here...

Hey, if it could happen in Virginia, could it happen here???

Don't take this as a hostile attitude about Law Enforcement, that doesn't fly in Casa Steve, but I do think I have the liberty to directly confront this issue, head on...If it ever came into play in our State...

Yes, Steve, it can happen here.

We, the people have geiven away a lot of our freedoms piece by piece. Every piece of legislation passed by congress, signed by president, affirmed by SCOTUS, has slowly backed us into a corner.

The founding fathers envisioned a very limited government, not the career politicians we have today.

The steanding army was only supposed to exist in time of war.

The BATFE should not exist. The IRS should not exist. The thousands of firearms laws should not exist.

Unless we continue to recover our rights, we will lose them forever.

I would go into sarcastic jerk mode if question in that manner.

Now that the BATFE gun show shenanigans in Virginia have made the news, I have contacted my senators and even my representative (Sheila Jackson Lee)

I don't there is anything that can be done but to go to their bosses.

I guess it might be worth while to send a note to the White House.
Any thoughts?

Don't we have the right to remain silent, both Federally and Statelly???

Regardless if we have been "Mirandized", or not???

Just a thought...Let the burden fall on the interogator to press the issue...

I have a hard time thinking this would fly in this state...

Please note - IANAL, never will be.

However, I believe that irregardless what the feds have, you do not have to say squat. Silence is all they get. The reasonable suspicion and probable cause stuff apply.

If I need correcting, please do so.

right to remain silent

Every time I see an actor read their rights in a show and they ask that question...

"Do you understand these rights as I have read them to you?"

I think: "Heck no!".
I know grown men that have spent their entire life studying those rights and they aren't in complete agreement. How could a guy like me know? I am gonna have to ask a lawyer for help.

My guess is Dallas will be first. Ultra-liberal mayor Laura Miller and council have been looking for a way to evict Dallas Arms Collectors Assn. from Market Hall and these tactics have to be appealing to them. Combine this with vocal anti-gun members of Dallas Police Dept. and you have the recipe for harrassment of legal gun owners. Lesbian Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Gonzales is notable only since she went MIA immediately upon being elected and hasn't been heard or seen since. County commissioners like race-baiter John Wiley Price are hard-line Democrats with deep-seated antipathy for conservative gun owners.

DACA puts on great gunshows at Market Hall. The best in north Texas. Mayor Laura Miller is stridently anti-gun and is working to throw DACA out any way she can. Most recently she announced plans to renovate Market Hall and "change direction" for the site. DACA correctly interprets this to mean Miller wants to tear-up their contract and move a more politically-correct show into its place.

It would shock me if ATFE has not already been in contact with mayor Miller about using strong-arm tactics at Market Hall.

BTW here's a pic of the latest t-shirt making the rounds in Dallas. Symbolizes the ongoing failure of the last four Dallas mayors: Annette Strauss, Steve Bartlett, Ron Kirk and Laura Miller. Pathetic.

We remember the Alamo because against long odds we were forced give up one building.

That reminds me of G. Gordon Liddy being sworn in to testify at the Watergate committee:

"Do you swear to tell the truth?"

"No."

"Ummmm.... what?"

"I'm going to lie like a dog."

(or words to that effect)

After some flustering and consternation, they just started asking him questions. ;)

This is dang scary. I could easily see something like this happening in California, NJ, Mass, or Illinois, but Virginia is one of the last places I'd suspect. If it can happen there it could happen here.

How can they be allowed to get away with this. Do the individuals hav some sort of recourse against this type of intimidation?

There is no reason for them to act like that. All that is required is that you give your name, DOB, and address.

"Do you understand these rights as I have read them to you?"

"No, I NEED MY OWN LAWYER to explain them to me."

It seems to me two of the best tools to deal with this type of intrusion are the exercise of your right to remain silent and a camera. Then at the next gun show, the promoters should post LARGE photos of the intrusive LEOs with as much info (name, badge number, etc.) as they can obtain.
