Broken knees?
JK. Report it to TGT. Then ask him to send you a photo of his TXDL. Then tell him to send you the rifle. If he refuses, fill theft charges on him w the local PD where he lives, and simultaneously sue him for the amount.

File theft charges on him. Most of the people who do this get away with this continue to do it because most buyers just write it off as a lesson learned. Maybe this will be his wakeup call.gigag04 wrote:Broken knees?

Let me clarify. Mail fraud is a federal crime. The USPS is known to proceed with criminal charges for money order and mail fraud. That is why I will use a USPS money order instead of a bank check.Jumping Frog wrote:Report him to USPS for mail fraud.
Did you send the payment by certifISD mail (I hope)?

Sounds to me like he scammed you for the first money order and was trying to see if you would send him two. As an FFL I have offered to be a go between and hold the gun until the money was received. That way it ensures the buyer will actually send the money and I have the gun in my possession so the buyer is ensured that the gun will be shipped. FYI, I am willing to do this for local TXCHLforum members.

True. File with them too. They can be tried for the same incident but different crimes by filing federal and state charges.Jumping Frog wrote:Let me clarify. Mail fraud is a federal crime. This happened in the trials for the Rodney King cops.

I am not familiar with postal money orders. Can the post office tell you if he cashed the money order? If he did and you have proof he claims he didn't , it seems like it would be an open and closed case.

Scamming gun enthusiasts just seems like living life on the razor sharp edge of brazen stupidity.

I concur. But.... I am fairly certain part of being a criminal is being stupid. It is a requirement to get your criminals permit.gigag04 wrote:Scamming gun enthusiasts just seems like living life on the razor sharp edge of brazen stupidity.

On the other hand, it's possible he actually lost the money order.

It is possible. I have lost stuff. On the other hand, I don't believe that he did. That's just my personal opinion.tacticool wrote:On the other hand, it's possible he actually lost the money order.

You may be right. I'm curious what the post office tells the OP.

I have lost lots of stuff. But I've never actually lost a check. Never. Somehow, money just gets put in a different category than my car keys.tacticool wrote:On the other hand, it's possible he actually lost the money order.

As an FFL, isn't this considered a transfer that you would be required to fill out a 4473 for?mrvmax wrote:Sounds to me like he scammed you for the first money order and was trying to see if you would send him two. Yep, pointless for a local sale but when it is like this one (when the buyer/seller doesn't want to drive to meet) and you do not want to get scammed it works. I guess for the tin foil hat wearers they would avoid doing it this way since they do not want paperwork showing the purchase.C-dub wrote:As an FFL, isn't this considered a transfer that you would be required to fill out a 4473 for?mrvmax wrote:Sounds to me like he scammed you for the first money order and was trying to see if you would send him two.
