Re: Subway robbed by teens as a prank
When I saw the link refer to it as "Urban Skittles", I thought it was a reference to the Zimmerman case at first.

1. You reckon other tailless, biped breeders might get the message and decide to be parents?DubiousDan wrote:It would be a case of closing the barn door after the horse has left - or how ever that old saying goes.Oldgringo wrote:Since the actors were underage, their parents should be charged with child neglect, fined and made to attend mandatory classes on parenting until such time as their 'lil darlins' reached legal age.
It would be a shame to see some teen shot because of some stupid prank, but Darwin will out and I couldn't blame the shooter in a case like that.
2. Stupid is, and pays, as stupid does. It's back to the upbringing.
3. I'm weary of excuses...

Re: Subway robbed by teens as a prank
If this had been interrupted by LE, a CHL holder, or someone else refusing to be a victim, before the suspects ran, would we believe the "It was just a prank!" defense?
Do we know for a fact that they were not armed at the time, or is this inferred from the "hands in pockets" description and statements of a suspect arrested later?
A lot of bad things start off as jokes, dares, and pranks among young folks - and people old enough to know better.

Re: Subway robbed by teens as a prank
They are very lucky they did not end up with holes in them. Could have very easily been terminal stupidity. As far as taking out three people holding up a store....I am not going to fire 3 on 1 unless I have no other option. Just not good odds. I am not super human and do not have the reflexes of a cat so I would not do that unless I thought death was the other option. Now if it goes beyond a smash and grab and they start beating people up/ shooting/rounding up patrons that crosses a line, and one might be forced to end the hostilites. Really Really stupid.

Re: Subway robbed by teens as a prank
I know this thread is a bit old, but a repost brought it to my attention. On the original news page there is a link to a UK plonker named Neg Dupree that does this urban skittles (Skittles: a table top version of 10 pin bowling) as a comedy prank wearing a cowboy hat and pretending to have a gun. Watch the video and tell me you wouldn't want to shoot the idiot!! I certainly would!

Re: Subway robbed by teens as a prank
As cold as it sounds, when you look at it logically and remove emotions, most teenagers who get killed, when it is not a true criminal act, actually die of a case of terminal stupidity. Mostly their own, but sometimes it is some else's stupidity. Quite often it is a case as appears here to be Group Stupidity.

I don't do those things to other people and I require the same of them.

For all us non-Brits, here's one of http://www.urbandictionary.com's" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; defnintions of a PLONKER:
plonker
the term plonker started out as a reference to someone who was forever drunk on cheap wine (cheap wine is nicknamed plonk) this person was usualy a homeless person, or poor person.
today the term plonker is a very light hearted insult. Its not even seen as an insult, its like calling someone a wally. Its in no way ment maliciously. you call someone a plonker when they say or do something stupid.
bob - why didnt my food cook ?
john - you never turned on the oven, you plonker.

Re: Subway robbed by teens as a prank
I might not be grasping the tone of your post accurately, but it almost sounds like you're trying to shame those who would act to stop a crime if they saw one being perpetrated.philip964 wrote:http://www.kake.com/home/headlines/151548325.html
I eat at subway a lot. Many of you have mentioned that if during a robbery you are told to get on the floor, you would take action.
The teens had their fingers in their pockets as if they had guns, but apparently they didn't.
So would this be 3 X Trayvon Martin all over again - unarmed teens killed by CHL. And you wouldn't even be injured.
My reaction is: Why does the CHL have to be injured? I guess I don't remember the part of my class where it said you can only stop a robbery with deadly force if you're injured. A robbery with "pretend" guns is still an aggravated robbery if I remember right.
These kids were lucky. A quote in the article alludes to it too: "Lt. Doug Nolte, Wichita police... said the suspects could have been confronted, creating a harmful environment." Reading between the lines on that I'm thinking that the police Lt is implying that they're lucky there wasn't a CHL or some other good citizen there to stop it.
I think that it would have been up to the CHL holder's discretion, but if they felt so threatened that they would have had to resort to deadly force against these kids theres no moral or legal reason why they shouldn't whether they were injured or not--in TX at least.
It's not like 15 and 16 year olds never actually rob and kill people with REAL guns. We all know that they can and sometimes they do.

Re: Subway robbed by teens as a prank
I'm sitting here trying to figure out what would have happend to me by my parents were that have been me.... stupid prank. Put it this way: I'd rather be shot dead by a CHL or LEO than go home and explain to them that I robbed a subway as a prank.

Plonkers are not to be confused with wankers although they do share similar traits.surprise_i'm_armed wrote:For all us non-Brits, here's one of http://www.urbandictionary.com's" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; defnintions of a PLONKER:

Re: Subway robbed by teens as a prank
If I was in one of the places with a sigle person and this was pulled, It would not be good for him. If he was my child and I found out this was pulled, it would not be good for him. This "prank" is a good way to get someone hurt, that is all it is good for.
