Some people are still Democrats because a Republican POTUS freed the slaves.

The shrinking viewership is exactly because of the kind of reporting in the OP's linked article. The viewer plunge at CNN, which just recorded its lowest ratings in 20 years, is presenting a “challenge” to the Cable News Network to fight back against scrappier and more provocative cable networks, according to network anchor John King.
In a revealing moment at the annual Cable Show, this year in Boston, C-SPAN’s Steve Scully, hosting a media panel, asked King: “Who’s your audience John King, who’s watching CNN?” King, to laughter, fessed, “Well, fewer people at the moment, which is part of our challenge. And you can laugh all you want. It’s a challenge.”

If that were true then Fox News would have been forced off the air years ago. They (Fox) have no competition and have a monopoly on the far right wing viewership. CNN has a plethora of legitimate news competition. I seriously doubt CNN has lost any viewers to Fox! I watch and read all major US networks and websites and a few international ones as well to get a more balanced view of the world. I'll have to admit there's not another network like Fox!!!The Annoyed Man wrote:http://washingtonexaminer.com/politics/ ... cnn/645496

I could go on. I'm not saying that FoxNews is perfect. In fact, Sheppard Smith is any annoying twerp who is anything but a conservative. And I don't like the way they sensationalize stories.......anymore that I dislike when the other networks do it too. BUT.....Fox is on top in the ratings. That's just a fact, and everyone in the industry acknowledges it. That may not matter to you personally. But I can tell that it does matter to a lot of people, and the reason it matters is because FoxNews's presentation of the news appeals to a broader majority of news watchers than CNN, or the other "also rans." CNN used to be on top, and Fox didn't. The roles are reversed. A large part of the viewing public—not by any means a majority, but a significant part—are white republicans........kinda like me. They don't take kindly to being dismissed by a network whose editorial stance is not in step with their own. Thus, CNN's viewership is down. Fox's is higher. There's a reason. When a news outlet, regardless of who it is, dismisses a large group of news-watchers as irrelevant, they slit their own throat. It shows in their numbers. You don't have to believe the numbers, but they are there for anyone who wants to look at them.

Re: GOP demographics - white, aging, and dying off.
I'm white and I'm aging, so I reckon I'm dying off. Other than the Kardashians, whomever do y'all know who is getting younger?
FWIW, I don't care much for FOX's Sheppard Smith either. He seems to have have left his 'Ol Miss background behind when he matriculated to 'The Big Apple'. Have y'all ever heard him say "GUUN" when one of his segments concerned one? How come we never see a picture of his wife?
Five, ten or twenty years from now...meh.

Here's another one: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/media ... 08466.html
Anyway, the first lesson of digging when you find yourself in a hole is you stop digging. This is not a lesson CNN has learned. Instead, they hired Piers Morgan.....as if he were a serious newsman.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!
This is exactly the point I made.....you diss your viewership and they vote with their feet. It is natural for an entity as self-centered and self-promotional as any major cable newsroom to respond by implying that the deserting viewers are irrelevant, which is the subject of the OP's article, never mind that they represent a significant chunk of that demographic in which advertisers (who pay newsroom superstars' inflated salaries) are most interested. That speaks to simply atrocious business sense. I even saw a webpage from notoriously hardcore leftist apologists NewsCorpse.com criticizing CNN for being too conservative ( ), blaming CNN's diminishing viewership on their trying too hard to emulate Fox News............. .......just another example of leftist insanity and denial.Stories aren't the only thing that high-profile studio anchors at CNN apparently know how to break. Judging by the latest TV ratings, they also seem to be uncannily successful at destroying the loyalty of viewers.
Figures from ratings agency Nielsen show that America's most famous rolling news brand has just experienced its worst month for almost 20 years, parting company with more than 50 per cent of its audience in 12 months.

Piers Morgan needs to go back to judging "America's got Morons" or whatever that show was. What do you expect from somebody who can be replaced by that paragon of virtue -- Howard Stern!

...you can take two Sheppard Smiths and blend with three Giraldo Riveras, and you still don't have a good reporter...what they're doing at Fox I don't know, except maybe as token idiots...
Re: GOP demographics - white, aging, and dying off.
I read Fox News on the 'Net NOT because they are "conservative" because they are the LEAST leftist. I supplement that with conservative blogs.speedsix wrote:...you can take two Sheppard Smiths and blend with three Giraldo Riveras, and you still don't have a good reporter...what they're doing at Fox I don't know, except maybe as token idiots...

I think this illustrates CNN's disconnect lately:
MSNBC: Blatantly rooting for Tom Barrett
FOX: Blatantly rooting for Gov. Scott Walker
CNN: "Oh look a bird"

Yeah, but its what we do and what we stand for before that time that makes the difference. Frederich Nietzsche don't impress me.SRO1911 wrote:29 white (with two brown daughters and a day-glo ginger son) rational anarchist. Vote as conservative as I can.
