Lots of folks carry at the waist, either angled or horizontal, IWB or OWB, various places around the belt, with untucked shirt over it. Basically like a gun. It works for them, but of course to keep it hidden you need the cover garment, which then requires clearing, unless you don't mind open carrying a knife. Also, the same friend who knocked me down pointed out that in a close grapple situation, especially on the ground, you end up with blade VERY close to your guts. In force-on-force/ground fighting practice, we have been known to draw our opponent's knives (and guns) and use them against the owner. Things around the waist are very discoverable when grappling. Something to think about..
In reality anything you carry, gun knife, etc... you need to be able to keep control over. That's definately something to train for.

The Best are your sharpened bayonets. However, it is illegal to carry around.

Re: Fixed blade knife EDC
I don't know much about carrying a fixed blade but I am interested in carrying a gerber LMF 2 for EDC.
It is single edge.
It is a fixed blade sheath knife.
It is not slim/skinny enough or balanced in a way that it could be called a "throwing" knife.
The blade length is about 4.8 inches.
Does anybody know if it legal to EDC this knife in Texas?

I'm not a lawyer, but from my reading of the laws here Yes, that is legal.

Thanks for answering. I thought so to but it is nice to hear from someone who agrees. I wrote an email asking the same question to the district attorney in my county. I also wrote one to Gerber tool corporate. I will be sure to post the responses I get.
Re: Fixed blade knife EDC
The DA will probably need to look it up. Gerber won't care. But many of us carry knives every day & have taken the time to learn the laws to protect ourselves.
The State of Texas doesn't care if a knife is a folder or fixed blade.
It may only be sharpened on 1 side.
It may only be up to 5.5 inches in length. This part is a bit tricky depending on where it gets measured.
It isn't a throwing knife (although you can throw any knife)
Is it a Bowie knife? There isn't a legal definition of a Bowie knife in our laws, so this one can be tricky as well.
