True, but the general atmosphere in the UK isn't just anti-gun, it's anti-self-defense. Even if people in the UK could own and carry guns they wouldn't be able to use them for self-defense. And while some police are armed, in general, the regular police wouldn't even be able to stop a group like this...they'd have to call in an armed response unit. The culture cultivates the rights of criminals. So, a group like this can assemble and kill someone knowing that it is highly unlikely anyone will be able to stop them.
I believe Britain is a democracy. If the general sentiment is to be able to defend oneself, they should exercise their votes to get representatives that will push for such legislation. Other than the cold weather, another reason Illinois isn't on my relo list!
That's a nice theory...maybe it was even true at some point, but now? Do you think the US is a democracy....in the sense that we can just vote and change things? 90% of the country was against bailing out the banks....Congress did it anyway, and faced no consequences. There are all kinds of laws that prevent people from running against incumbents, then there is the blatant gerrymandering, the barriers to entry due to the dominance of the two political parties, and so on. Who on this board actually WANTS Mittens to be president, and how many will vote for him simply from the fear that Obama is worse? What kind of choice is that?
That said, yep, in the UK, the general sentiment, or at least enough sentiment, is against self-defense to make changing how the law is enforced very difficult, perhaps impossible --it's the product of decades of liberal control and indoctrination via control of the schools and the media. Now, the UK is a somewhat different matter because it doesn't have a Constitution, but our Constitutional grants RIGHTS to individuals. A RIGHT isn't subject to a majority vote. Human beings have an innate --God given-- right to self-defense. Once the majority accept otherwise, the country is finished, with no hope of recovery.
