Nightmare in Costa Rica
Nightmare in Costa Rica
An email was passed on to me that was written by someone I knew many years ago. He is an ex-Leo and has been an expat living in Costa Rica for about 20 years. I did some digging around and also found an article on this incident on a Costa Rican news site. I blanked out the name of the town but left the rest of the email text as is.
"My home here In ########, Costa Rica was assaulted by 5 Swat/Ninja outfitted males. They wore all black outfits ski-masks gloves and boots. They were all armed with 9mm hand guns . They used crow-bars to brake my steel perimeter gate and upon hearing it brake my gardener whom I was paying at the time saw that we were being assaulted closed and I locked the front-door with the dead-bolt. I had no sooner done this and was running down the stairs to the lower level floor when they had smashed open the front door. I made it down opened the hallway with my key grabbed my 9mm chambered a round as they tried to smash the door in . They continued to yell " al piso pongee al piso" (get down put yourself on the floor) I opened the door expecting them to start shooting through the door at any moment and immediately fired 2 rounds into the closest assailant who was aiming his 9mm at me and commenced firing my weapon at the next closest target and continued doing so at those who were aiming weapons at me from the staircase. As this response from me took place the assailants ran up the stairs as I continued my response. My Butler who had been in his room watching TV hearing my gardeners yells to call the Police we were being assaulted. We could hear moaning from-the upper floor and low voices. The Butler informed me that the phone-line on his side was dead. My cell phone was not receiving a clear signal due to being in the middle of the heavy structure. I had the gardener stay in the hall locked passage and proceeded towards my bedroom still covering the staircase and discovered that that phone-line was also out. Using my cell phone from that location I was able to contact the Police and also requested an ambulance as I believed I'd wounded some of the assailants. When the Police arrived In front of my home I then came up to the next top level and discovered the body of one of the assailants still wearing his black Swat/Ninja outfit still clutching his 9mm in his outstretched right hand finger on the trigger and hammer pulled back in the firing position."

The section is for actual crime reports.....I don't think "I got this email about this thing" counts as an actual crime unless you can find some sort of media coverage or police report to back up the story.

It's not just an internet email being passed around the web. I know this person who wrote this.74novaman wrote:The section is for actual crime reports.....I don't think "I got this email about this thing" counts as an actual crime unless you can find some sort of media coverage or police report to back up the story.

Re: Nightmare in Costa Rica
I have a friend who considered Costa Rica, but is instead moving to Ecuador as the crime rate in Costa Rica has been increasing. As drugs become more and more of a problem everywhere they have now felt the effect in what used to be a country considered "safe". Several (10-12) Americans have been killed in the last couple of years.

Is it legal to own weapons in Costa Rica? Not saying people don't have them, just asking about the legality of it there.

I left out the link to begin with because it had the name/place.
Re: Nightmare in Costa Rica
Okay, it was just a curiosity thing as so many countries have different rules...a lot of people don't know, but even in France, some people have guns...they just have to jump through bureaucratic hoops to have them...jerry_r60 wrote:Licenses are attainable for permanent residents.Heartland Patriot wrote:
