C-dub go over to http://www.m4carbine.net/forum.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and you find out a lot of differences between RRA, BM, Stag, etc. and the tier one weapons such as Colt, DD, BCM, etc. A lot has to do with quality, twist rate, chrome lined, magnetic particle testing of the bolts and barrels and the steel the barrels are made of. Over there they are looking at the M4 as a fighting rifle not a lower quality plinker.

Just curious why they didn't reply here:
http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=82739" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - click on the link in the first post for the chart
This chart has been long discussed since the first version back in 07 and it is clutch to learn for anyone who wants a working gun.

Spikes Tactial has an excellent showing though...but the LE6920 is not that differently priced with better resale.

Re: New Patrol Rifle time
Was at GTs for 40th Anniversary sale today and held one of these new lightweight mid-length piston guns from LWRC http://www.lwrci.com/p-252-m6-sl-stretc ... eight.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
VERY impressive - and seems exactly what you're looking for
Also Legion Firearms had their Hex-cut barreled AR there with a sales rep - don't know much about company (I think he said they're Texas-based) but the rifle was VERY impressive - amazing light, Wilson Combat adaptable forearm (put picatinny rails only where you need them), and a CMC trigger group - best AR trigger I've ever pressed
http://store.legionfirearms.com/Product ... e=LEGLF15D" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Not cheap though

Yeah, except the vast majority of the posters on that board are a bunch of arrogant, condescending asshats. They love to hold up "objective standards" for M-4's. However, they hate on PSA because "they haven't been around long enough to be trusted" even though they meet the same standards as other "tier 1" brands. They also trash Spikes Tactical because of the logos,etc.remington79 wrote:C-dub go over to http://www.m4carbine.net/forum.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and you find out a lot of differences between RRA, BM, Stag, etc. and the tier one weapons such as Colt, DD, BCM, etc. A lot has to do with quality, twist rate, chrome lined, magnetic particle testing of the bolts and barrels and the steel the barrels are made of. They have a complete inability to acknowledge that the vast majority of M-4 owners don't need or want a battle rifle, and love to tell anyone that doesn't own a BCM, Colt, DD, Noveske or LaRue that their rifle is crap, they've wasted money, and that they should pawn their no-good rifle off on someone else and get something that is "G2G" ASAP, or else.
There might be some good info on that sight, but having to wade through the arrogant attitudes of most of the posters doesn't make it worth finding.
Re: New Patrol Rifle time
I haven't read anything there. I copied that chart into an Excel spreadsheet and then started going to the individual websites checking them out myself. I can't find some of the rifles on that chart and some aren't configured how I think I like and a few are pretty high priced and a bit out of my comfortable range to slide this by the Mrs.maverick2076 wrote:Yeah, except the vast majority of the posters on that board are a bunch of arrogant, condescending asshats. I'm also liking that BCM EAG Tactical. Is all the extra stuff worth the extra $700?
EDIT: Changed the price difference. I had it $200 higher.

Re: New Patrol Rifle time
+1 for the RUC if buying straight up. BCM is good to go and despite being something of a new-comer, Palmetto State Armory gets good marks also.
Currently eye-balling a new upper... BCM light-weight mid-length + MPI/Auto BCG + Centurion Arms mid-length cut-out rail + Larue fixed rear-sight.
There's a long-running thread here with lots of good info up front and buried within: "So you want to buy an AR-15 huh" http://forums.officer.com/t81462/

I like that sight because I'm in the market for an M4 and I want something a step up from a plinker. I find M4 carbine to be a better and more mature sight than ar15.commaverick2076 wrote:Yeah, except the vast majority of the posters on that board are a bunch of arrogant, condescending asshats. GigAg, do you have to use department ammo? Or do you have to buy your own, but from a list of approved choices?gigag04 wrote:Spikes Tactial has an excellent showing though...but the LE6920 is not that differently priced with better resale.

For efficacy and or home defense isn't the higher twist rate better for heavier rounds? Are these heavier rounds better for stopping someone instead of the lighter rounds that would fly better in the 1:9 twist rifles?

We use gold dots and are given 50, but I also have a go bag with TAP, ball, and green tip mags along with med supplies.

Re: New Patrol Rifle time
What grains? Since I've read that the heavier grains fly better in the higher twist rate of 1:7 is that why this twist rate is supposedly better or maybe more correctly described as more desirable in a fighting/battle rifle?gigag04 wrote:We use gold dots and are given 50, but I also have a go bag with TAP, ball, and green tip mags along with med supplies.
