My job doesn't allow me to carry in the building at all. What job allows you to carry, but without a round in the camber?
He says "a simple commissioned guard" so he probably works for a security firm with a policy manual written by the legal department instead of operations. Hell, I think the NG was carrying unloaded guns in airports after 9/11.

My advice to Gunner21 is to work for a different company. It's usually easier to find a better job than change policy.

That's an issue I used to have at my job also. We have Glock 17s as the issued sidearm that gets passed along to the next shift. A while back there was a ND by one of the guards at the beginning of the shift & ever since then the policy was to not carry a round chambered. I broke that policy many times. Another policy was to download the mags by 1 round. I broke that policy several times also. Now I carry my personally owned sidearms.

You encounter all sorts of strange firearms policies which I suspect were written by people who know very little about firearms.
I talked to two armed security guards whose company required them to carry 30 rounds of ammo but restricted them to 10-round magazines. I knew that the standard capacity for their pistols' mags was 15 rounds. (I think they carried Beretta 92FS, but I don't remember for sure now.)
I asked why they don't carry two 15-rd mags instead of 3 10-rd mags.
They told me they were only allowed to carry 10-rounders.
I'm like, "Right. . . . :???: but, what does your company think they're accomplishing by requiring you to make two mag changes rather than one in order to fire the 30 rounds?"
And they were like :headscratch "Huh?"
And I was

While I am not here to tell anyone to carry their gun with a round chambered or not...

Here's some food for thought:

video

This guy is drawing a gun with an empty chamber, racking, and shooting Israeli style. Didn't take long did it? In fact I imagine he put several rounds on target quicker than most shooters.

The down side of carrying with a round in the chamber is that you need serviceable gear and to know what you are doing. Otherwise this can happen:

If you are new to carrying a firearm, please don't be the guy that shot himself. Remember you are carrying FOR SAFETY

He had to use one hand to hold onto the door to keep from being pulled out and used his other hand to grab his gun from the center console and shoot the thug. He would have been unable to chamber a round because his other hand was keeping him from being pulled out.

Just takes a little creativity about what to rack the gun off of:
Draw and rack with one hand

People can overcome handicaps but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to start at a disadvantage if you have a choice.

From what I could tell In the first video, he's still manually racking the slide with his other hand. If he cant use his hand to rack because he's pushing someone away to keep distance or for some other reason he'll be in real trouble. He is fast about racking it, but there are other considerations beyond speed. I might have missed something though; the video was sideways on my screen.

For the second vid it really doesn't look like a gear issue to me, even though thats what he says. It looks more like a training problem.

Better yet, carry the gun without a mag in the well. That should make it even safer. Or, why not carry an empty gun with an empty mag on your belt and a box of ammo. Probably want to make sure that box is unopened and taped up real good, just to be safe.
Life is tough, but it's tougher when you're stupid.
